Vanessa was a beautiful young woman who lived her life completely dedicated to her 8-month old daughter Luciana (Lucy), her husband Michael, and her two parents Luisa and Jose. I’ve been following this senseless and heartbreaking tragedy closely since the murder of Lyft driver and former Afghanistan interpreter for the US military (Nasrat Ahmad Yar) back in July 2023. It looks like an arrest has been made of a 15-year old juvenile for his murder. Nasrat left behind a wife and four young children whom had just been relocated to the US. Their GoFundMe is still up. I wanted to share with you the sad news that our local DC Tool Library branch at Twin Oaks was recently burglarized several times (escalating over the course of a week) and over $10K worth of tools were stolen. A group of us working in DC’s food & beverage community (HAAPI DC) are hosting a Lunar New Year celebration at Lost Generation.

The event will include: unlimited drinks, small bites from your favorite local chefs (Justin Ahn of Incheon, Erik Bruner-Yang of Maketto, Tim Ma of Any Day Now, and more), and a lion dance performance!

Through the generosity of our hosts and partners, we’re donating all of the proceeds raised by the tickets to the 1882 Foundation, which is working to revitalize DC’s Chinatown as a cultural hub.
