The GoFundMe page says:

“Sumah’s West African Restaurant is a long-standing, loving business establishment in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington, D.C. It has been a staple in the DC community for over 20 years.

On Wednesday, November 28th, 2018, a fire broke out and burned the restaurant down. It is by the grace of God that everyone got out alive and the firefighters were able to put out the blaze. While the physical establishment burned down, the love of Mr. and Mrs. Sumah, their family and friends, still stands.

This is a time where we as their community family should stand up, support them and help them rebuild! They share so much love and kindness to others that heals the soul through their food! It is rare to find people who genuinely love to help & bless others simply through their craft of food. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Someone stuck some fire starters into our car wheel Sunday morning and set our car on fire. I saw that you had some posts about car arson in DC, do you know of recent cases? It’s pretty scary and we want to know if it’s part of a recent pattern. Someone mentioned that there were some cases of car arson in Logan this summer.

Since the incident, we heard from others living in the area that there’s been a string of car arsons in the shaw/truxton circle/logan region over the last few months. People have been helpful in updating the fire detectives working on their case. I’m sure the detectives will connect the dots, but I’m trying to proactively see if there are other similar incidents in the area.”

Abi reports:

“The corner of Shepherd and Georgia NW was very busy last night… a three-car crash around 10:35 pm and then a fire around 1:35 am.”
