“We found this in our mailbox. It’s all about the reduced amount of green space in our neighborhood now and in the future. It’s a few pages long and well done.”
Ed. Note: Back in April we talked about the “Massive Development Plans for Woodley Park”.

From a press release:
“Washington’s latest church-to-condo conversion may be the city’s most awe-inspiring to date. The Sanctuary, located at 819 D Street, NE in the Stanton Park neighborhood of prestigious Capitol Hill, offers 30 distinctive homes carefully designed and built within the stately red brick walls of a 19th-century Gothic Revival church. The building’s meticulous restoration produces incredible spaces with soaring ceilings, monumental windows, and residences that will not be replicated.
The Rubin Group is leading the development team now nearing completion of an 18-month restoration and transformation effort that includes thoughtful preservation of many century-old features, with its partner Regua. Bonstra Haresign Architects is the architect for the renovations; Potomac Construction Group is the general contractor.
The hallmark of this effort is the careful hand restoration of the beautiful stained and leaded glass windows, the building’s defining feature. Pennsylvania craftsmen worked thousands of hours artfully restoring every single stained glass panel to its original splendor.
After five decades on Capitol Hill, The Way of the Cross Church of Christ decided to build a larger campus in Capitol Heights, MD. In order to finance its expansion, the church selected the development team as its partner to restore and transform the building. (more…)

“US Marshals today evicted the venerable Volvo House, last auto shop in Logan Circle”
“84-yr-old owner had a stroke apparently, couldn’t keep the place up”
“Old Volvos from the Volvo House line Q St, where they’re quickly racking up tickets.”

Thanks to a reader for sending these great photos. At first I thought the picnic tables were for Bardo Riverfront but then I remembered their summer bummer news. Updates when/if they get closer to opening. Maybe they’re for The Salt Line or just a building amenity.
From Dock 79:
“This is the new way to live urban. This is the Docks. Dock 79 is 100% inspired by a rugged, yet refined, nautical spirit.”

From the Mayor’s office:
“Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser was joined by D.C. United, Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen, the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development, the Director of the Department of General Services and other District officials for an infrastructure groundbreaking in preparation for the new soccer stadium at Buzzard Point, in Ward 6.
“Buzzard Point’s future is bright, and this soccer stadium will make it that much brighter,” said Mayor Bowser. “Today’s demolition represents the first step toward revitalizing an overlooked area of the District that will spur economic activity on the banks of the Anacostia, hire residents for good paying jobs, and give more Washingtonians a fair shot. We are proud of our hometown soccer team, and we are now one step closer to having a new home for D.C. United.”
The $300 million state-of-the-art facility is a public-private partnership that will create nearly 900 job opportunities for District residents, and strengthen the city’s commitment to community and fan engagement. Training, apprenticeships, and workforce development opportunities will be provided to connect neighborhood residents to jobs stemming from this project. (more…)
