I am moving in a couple of weeks and would like to donate a ton of new or lightly used test prep books (GRE and LSAT) as well as a few textbooks. I cannot seem to get ahold of anyone who would accept these, and wondered if the PoPville community might have some leads? I’d hate to throw them away.”

Yesterday (Sunday, July 2nd), we had a young man come to our door. He was soliciting donations for the DC Futures program and said he was close to his $100 goal. His pitch was slick, but very fast paced and felt like a hustle. He showed a permit, however, I couldn’t get a good look at it before I told him to move on. Is a permit required to go door-to-door? Has anyone in the community had success or able to offer helpful suggestions for a request to the city to add and service a new city trashcan?

It seems the installations are hit or miss from the start; I sometimes see 3 or 4 with a couple of blocks, mostly unused, while other areas with busy pedestrian traffic and frequent trash issues go without. Our little stretch of Truxton is definitely in the latter. (more…)
