“Dear PoPville,

My husband and I are moving out of our current apartment and, as per our lease, had to give 60 days’ notice. Our landlords indicated they intend to pretty immediately list and start showing the apartment, while we are still in it. Now, we have never had landlords try to show an apartment we were still living in, though I know this is their right and is not entirely uncommon. While normally it would just be inconvenient, during a global pandemic, it’s pretty scary to envision strangers tromping through our apartment where we both work and live (and are basically at home 24/7 these days!) and it also feels particularly pointless because I think the odds of people seeing our increasingly messy and cluttered apartment as we ourselves prepare to move out will not be particularly appealing to any potential future renters. On top of everything, I am also pregnant, which my landlords are aware of (and apparently do not care). (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Hoping the community might know the official status of Acqua al 2 in Eastern Market? They had been selling grocery items earlier in the pandemic and then updated their website and posted on social media that they would be temporarily closing in late June to prepare for indoor dining in July. However, their phone line is currently not in service and friends have mentioned it looks very closed and empty from the outside. Does anyone know what’s going on? I know their sister restaurants Ghibellina and Sotto closed.”

On June 25th Acqua Al 2 posted to their Facebook:

“Dear PoPville,

For those who started working from home in DC because of the pandemic, I was wondering if folks could share what their offices have said/not said about how long employees can expect to work from home. For example, I know people who work for various types of organizations (big law firms, medium-sized and small-sized nonprofits, large for-profits) who have been told they should expect to work from home until at least January 2021. Meanwhile, my office has allowed employees to work from home since mid-March and has announced continuation of this work-from-home policy with advance notice anywhere from a 2-week to 2-month basis (so, for example, my work announced in early August that we can expect to work from home till at least mid-September, and we’ll probably get another update in early September about whether and how long this policy will be extended again). I was wondering what other organizations in DC have been doing.

“Dear PoPville,

I’m missing the gym like crazy, especially for the classes. I don’t do well with virtual classes, so I’m interested in seeing where I can find and take outdoor exercise classes (other than yoga). I’d really appreciate any leads, even in the suburbs.”

“Dear PoPville,

I just wanted to let you know that I went to the 11th and R st NW USPS blue mailbox and someone put adhesive in the top of the mailbox. It wasn’t extremely visible but my mail got stuck multiple times and I had to pry it off. I luckily caught this and was able to try to shove my mail in (took 4 tries) but it looks as though someone is trying to steal mail and I wanted to make sure people are aware to double check to see if their mail actually gets placed in mailboxes.”

Ed. Note: We’ve spoken about receiving mail troubles here.

“Dear PoPville,

I have not received my DC tax return yet. I submitted on June 17. I did receive a letter from DC Government in late June about additional verification steps needed. I went to the website and completed all the steps. I have not received a payment or any further follow up from DC Government. Is anyone else experiencing this?”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m wondering if any of your other readers have encountered this situation. My girlfriend and I recently (July 1) moved into a new apartment and we’ve started getting mail addressed to an LLC at our address, including some tax paperwork and bank statements. I did some searching on DCRA’s website, and the company was incorporated on July 23rd, so it doesn’t seem like it’s something that belongs to a previous resident. I reached out to DCRA and basically they gave me the paperwork from the incorporation and said good luck. Any advice out there on how we should handle this?”

“Dear PoPville,

I’d like to hear thoughts on the Adams Morgan tennis courts on 18th street, home of many interpretations given the lack of guidance around the line system.

Are there 2 lines (one for each court)? And if you arrive to play tennis, do you need to pick one court to wait at and hope you picked the faster line?

Or is there one line for both courts? If there’s just one line, where is the best place for the line to form so that people realize there’s a line already. (more…)
