“Dear PoPville,

With all the posts about how hard it is to get an appointment at the DC DMV, I had to share that you can register your car without going to the DMV!

Back in November, I bought a used car from an auto shop in Maryland who could not process DC tags. I haven’t owned a car since living in DC, so I had to go to the DMV to get tags before I could take it off the lot. Like many readers, getting an appointment was IMPOSSIBLE.

So I did some digging and learned that you can title/register/tag/etc. your car at tag and title shops in the area. (more…)

Update: Missed connection married :(

“Dear PoPville,

I was walking down Q Street between 15th and 16th St NW last night around 6:45pm (February 4) and a cute guy walked by with his golden retriever puppy. We chatted about the dog for a minute or two; he said she was three and a half months old and apologized when she tried to pull my scarf off. I wish I’d asked for the guy’s name but didn’t get the chance – here’s hoping he sees this and remembers the girl who stopped to say hi to him and his dog! (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Here’s a question I haven’t seen yet. A friend got a fantastic new job and I’d like to send her something: a gift box, booze, both possibly. Are there any local businesses in DC who can put a gift box/bag together for me and deliver it to my friend? She’s in upper N.W. Thank you!”

“Dear PoPville,

Since the beginning of the pandemic, I’ve noticed a huge uptick in really loud cars in our neighborhood (Brightwood, upper 14th Street), some of which are clearly modified to have extra loud motors. We’ve never found the street noise to be particularly loud before, other than the occasional siren of course, but I’m now woken up several times a week by the incredibly loud motors on cars that drive through/around the neighborhood. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Almost a year into the pandemic, we gave up on the at-home haircuts at about month two. However, as things slowly begin to return to normal-ish (fingers crossed), my husband and I are looking for places or people who can help us get back to looking like our former selves. Any recommendations from the community for salons or stylists? Preference would go to someone who could brave the outdoors and do the cut to reduce risk, but salons taking necessary precautions also welcome. I know the stylist community has also been hit pretty hard by the closures, so hoping to support. Thanks!”

Park Road just before Mount Pleasant Street, NW

“Dear PoPville,

In this photo a happy little Mount Pleasant park sits sun drenched and empty. There’s nothing really special about it.

A morning exercise class uses it. Rotating clusters of people wait for the H4. Kids skip through. Dog walkers chat with runners stretching out and folks waiting for the bus. A guy always parks his Vespa here alongside some bikes.

Everyone in the neighborhood gets to enjoy or ignore this little public space. It could definitely be improved. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I have an issue with a neighbor that I am not sure how to deal with, so hoping to get some good advice without escalating. My neighbor across the street routinely yells at people street parking who do not have the right zone sticker. His general routine is that he is up at ~6am walks up and down the street, leaves notes on peoples cars and then if people are parking while he is out he yells at them. If they try to respond he goes off and starts an all out screaming match. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

What do I do with the snow when I clear off the car? Leave it in the street? Shovel it onto our easement? My husband and I just bought a house, and this is the first time we’ve had street parking. It’s the first time we’ve had to worry about this problem, as well, even when we lived in a building with an outdoor lot.

For what it’s worth, I did the latter the other day because it was a fair amount of snow, and I was self-conscious. My block is almost entirely populated by people who’ve lived here for at least a decade, but more often several decades, so I didn’t want to rock the proverbial boat. I also wasn’t sure if there was some implicit rule city-wide about the etiquette around this.”
