“Dear PoPville,

A “friend” of mine moved from DC to Delaware roughly 9 months ago. In DC, he would qualify for the current vaccine phase, but Delaware is not yet allowing people under 65, so he hasn’t been able to register there. Because of this, he has decided to use his old DC address and ID to try to register for a vaccine here.

As someone who has a very serious pre-existing condition, (more…)

I don’t often post two rentals of the day but I don’t often see bathrooms like this either. Thanks to J for sending:

“I know this falls outside of DC city limits, but I think you’ll enjoy this. I have found the wildest studio apartment listing. It is truly a marvel. For $1400, you can live in a 350sqft studio out in Clifton, VA without a separate bathroom. That’s right, your toilet and shower are just out in the open. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Have any readers successfully negotiated rent on a new apartment lease recently? Tips/approaches? How does this vary by building type? Looking in NW.

I know there are many deals right now for 1-2 months free rent, but my focus is on the actual monthly rent as I hope to stay for longer than a year.”

“Dear PoPville,

Question for readers re: vehicle inspection/registration. Our inspection/registration expired in April 2020. At the time DC DMV extended expiration dates until the public health emergency ends. The DMV website indicates that continues to be the case for all DLs, IDs, registrations, inspections, etc. expiring 3/1/20 to 3/17/21. (more…)

Last night we received a number of reports about Comcast/Xfinity outages (service appears to be restored for many though some are still experiencing slowness as of this morning.) Doesn’t seem related bu thanks to Nat for sending this interesting tidbit: “I got an email from my apartment about RCN possibly experiencing “sun outages” between Feb 27 and March 8. I wonder if that’s what’s happening to Comcast?”

From RCN:

“What are Sun Outages? (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

My partner and I bought a new-build condo last year and we are experiencing some strange things. First off, our developer is still running the HOA. The building has been fully occupied by each owner since August of 2020. Is this common/at what point should a developer turn over HOA responsibility to the owners?

My second question relates to how our building is categorized by DCRA. All of us received a notice that we were randomly selected for a DCRA Proactive Inspection, which seems to only apply to rental properties. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

This may be an odd request, but would you be open to posting a general inquiry about best palm readers in DC? I’m looking to go to one and would be curious to see what the PoPville community says, if anything.”

“Dear PoPville,

Suffice it to say, we are all starting to lose our minds over quarantine. I’m a vaccinated health care worker. My husband works from home. We have skewed to the more conservative side of quarantining. I do the groceries and that’s about all we do outside of the house aside from walks around the neighborhood, arboretum, etc. We went to a restaurant once in October and both felt uncomfortable with the proximity to other people, physical interactions with staff. That being said, it sounds like restaurants are learning to step up and adapt in innovative ways. I know there is an inherent risk with all interactions these days, but I was hoping for recommendations for any restaurant/bars that readers thought were handling COVID service especially well. We appreciate any input!”

“Dear PoPville,

I was walking my puppy with my friend at the Washington Monument Friday (2/26) around 4pm and a cute guy came up to us with his white terrier pup Benji. My dog was petrified but Benji was adorable and so sweet. If you’re the 6 foot-ish., blonde man that was wearing a blue jacket I’d love to meet up again w our pups!”
