“Dear PoPville,

My friend was seriously injured (on a scooter) in a hit and run on Friday night. A witness reported the following and we’d appreciate if you could amplify. We are asking for any witness statements or camera footage.

“Hit and run on the corner of 1st and Bates St. NW at approximately 10:45 pm on Friday, October 1st, 2021. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I recently purchased an older rowhouse in DC, and I’m noticing a number of hairline cracks that are spreading and becoming concerning. The home inspector did not have any concerns about the foundation, and I know older homes do develop some cracks, but I think it may be a good idea to get an opinion from a structural engineer. Any good recommendations? Thanks!”

“Dear PoPville,

“I was at garden district on 14th having a beer with a friend on a Friday night beginning of August. You sat next to us with your friend. You overheard us taking about soccer (the Euro cup and Copa America finals were that weekend). We started to talk about soccer and you told me your name was Olivia. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I’m not from the east coast but relocated here. I had never heard about these famed apple cider donuts everyone talks about. I was wondering if any farms markets around town had them? I hear it’s kinda a farm thing but wasn’t sure if anyone in town had any?”

Ed. Note: It’s the AirPhotosLive imaging balloon! Our last sighting was June 2021. Lots of info, and the super sweet view it sees, here.

“Dear PoPville,

Working from Rosslyn today, and it looks like a balloon has been moored over the mall. Any info? You can see them taking it down as of 9:40am in the second picture where it is at a lower altitude.” (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I swam in college and have tried to keep up with swimming as one of my primary forms of exercise, but I really miss swimming with other people. When I lived near AU I swam with the master’s team that trains there and it was great. Now I live in the U St area and haven’t been able to figure out an official or unofficial group of people to swim with. One of my roommates found a great listserv/Facebook group of tennis players and I wonder if there’s something similar for swimming either for the U St area or DC as a whole.”

“Dear PoPville,

This past Sunday, around 5:30pm, I (short female with bangs and tattoos wearing sweaty workout clothes) was rushing through the H street Whole Foods, hungry from a workout and paying attention to my phone instead of my surroundings. I nearly walked into a tall cutie in a white shirt and baseball hat. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I recently received a Monetary Determination from DC’s Office of Unemployment Compensation that I believe may be fraudulent. I have not filed an unemployment claim with the District of Columbia. I found this to be a crazy coincidence given today’s DCist article.

The letter was mailed to my old DC address and my old landlord forwarded the letter to my new address (I’m now a resident of Virginia).

Out of curiosity, I navigated to the DC Unemployment Insurance Portal website, clicked on “Account Sign In” and “Forgot Your Password”. When I typed in my Social Security Number, it said “Password has been sent to [email protected]”, which is NOT my email address. (more…)
