“Dear PoPville,
What are good questions to ask the developer or realtor when evaluating a newly constructed condo?”

“Dear PoPville,
We live in NE (Ft.Totten/Lamond Riggs area) and when my husband was taking our dog out he found these empty 9mm shell casings in our backyard. We are not gun owners and we have no idea where they came from. That said, we were wondering if there was anything we should do with these other than just dispose of them, like notify law enforcement or some other entity? I’m sure this sort of thing happens a lot all over DC and we figured we’d see if anyone else has any thoughts on this.”

“Dear PoPville,
I was taking my usual route to work, heading southbound on 4th St NW at 7:55am yesterday, when an individual pushing a red shopping cart began verbally threatening to kill me. He then stepped in front of me into the street at that intersection and brandished a crow bar, saying that he would never let me cross the street and he would end my life. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
As the holidays are all around us and the year is coming to a close, I wanted to share a few 2021 missed connections and see if your readers can help put me in touch with them. Chances may be low but I figured why not put this out into the universe – here goes nothing.

“Dear PoPville,
Wanted to get the take of the hivemind. Last week, I was out at Dacha with some friends and was settling my tab. The server came over and informed me that there was an extra 20% service charge levied on the bill so the restaurant could pay staff $15 an hour. Although he didn’t inform us of this prior to settling my tab, in theory, I have no issue with this. I was a server before and think tipped employees deserve far more than they get. He turned the Clover around and presented me with a screen that then gave me the option to tip. I asked him if the 20% service charge was en lieu of a tip and he told me that it was not. He explained that the service charge gets split up amongst the staff and the tip would be directly for him. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Hana Market (U street) is an excellent Japanese market and Rice Market (14th St) is a great Thai one. Would love to crowdsource others!”

“Dear PoPville,
My organization has pushed back our return to any kind of in-person meetings AGAIN, so I’m hoping to get some fresh ideas to make online meetings less dreadful. Have you seen or done anything that was at least mildly amusing? (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I’m looking for somewhere to donate clothing in DC other than those clothing donation bins. Does anyone know of women’s shelters, churches, etc. that are accepting donations?“

“Dear PoPville,
Everywhere I call for pest removal is sympathetic, but they only take care of homes/offices. We had a rat problem in the house but DCPH said they couldn’t do anything for our rat-heavy Petworth alley, and a professional service set some poison but that’s it. Who can I call to help me remove the rat nest in my car, sanitize it, and make sure they don’t come back?“

“Dear PoPville,
I am interested in finally doing something about the small backyard of my row home, which is about as drab as can be. (more…)
