“Dear PoPville,
I’ve seen a bunch of the dark covers on license plates. Why? And are they legal?”
Not enough enforcement ability?
Update: “And yes, plate covers are absolutely illegal. See DCMR 18-422.8”

“Dear PoPville,
Apparently the strange building at 1647 Lamont St, NW in Mt. Pleasant is being demolished/renovated and has been doing so without permitting, which makes sense given the noise. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
In a long shot, I am wondering if you could help me find the contact info for the person who runs this small Petworth community garden (see triangle above.)
I’m really interested in joining this community garden, but I never seem to catch anyone there!”

Update from NPS:
“The National Park Service (NPS) is striving to ensure the long-term sustainability of the Rock Creek Park Horse Center. While NPS and Guest Services, Inc. (GSI) are in discussions about the possibility of GSI stepping away from its concessions contract, no decisions or timelines have been set. The Horse Center remains open, and we are actively exploring future operational options to ensure it continues to serve the community. We understand the importance of this facility and will provide updates as more information becomes available.”

“Dear PoPville,
For at least 4 months now, tenants of QH apartments have been dealing with the most foul smell ever. It’s like rat sh!t meets a dead animal(s) And it has leaked into the elevator, stairwell, laundry room, gym, etc. Management doesn’t care. They think cleaning at 2am is suffice and yet we’ve all continued to suffer from the smell. Some residents have even seen rats running around the gym and in the ceilings above. It’s a safety hazard for many reasons. (more…)

Ed. Note: You should not feel obligated to share your phone number with this person, or anyone else for that matter, if you don’t want to. I advise going into a store/office if there is one nearby and asking for help from someone (if you are outside.) If he continues to not leave you alone, you should consider calling the police. This is not normal behavior. You should have no guilt in protecting yourself after politely attempting to end the conversation. If he won’t leave you alone, your safety is paramount.
“Dear PoPville,
I had an encounter with a guy on Wednesday afternoon when I stepped outside to enjoy the sun for a few minutes. He insisted on chatting with me, told me he was new to the area and asked about local coffee spots. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Have other people been complaining about the amount of leftover salt from the snowstorm? I swept up a large section of Kalorama Park the other day, and put it in the trashcan, and the workers poured out into the bike lane.”
“Here’s the photo of the salt dumped in the bike lane”: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
My trash can (Capitol Hill) was hit in the ally so many times by trash/recycling trucks that it’s no longer usable. When I called 311, they told me it would be $50 to replace it. DPW told me they could replace it but unfortunately (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I’m wondering if anyone else who lives in Columbia Heights and has AT&T as their cell phone/wireless carrier is having signal issues? (more…)
