Update from NPS:

“The National Park Service (NPS) is striving to ensure the long-term sustainability of the Rock Creek Park Horse Center. While NPS and Guest Services, Inc. (GSI) are in discussions about the possibility of GSI stepping away from its concessions contract, no decisions or timelines have been set. The Horse Center remains open, and we are actively exploring future operational options to ensure it continues to serve the community. We understand the importance of this facility and will provide updates as more information becomes available.”

“Dear PoPville,

For at least 4 months now, tenants of QH apartments have been dealing with the most foul smell ever. It’s like rat sh!t meets a dead animal(s) And it has leaked into the elevator, stairwell, laundry room, gym, etc. Management doesn’t care. They think cleaning at 2am is suffice and yet we’ve all continued to suffer from the smell. Some residents have even seen rats running around the gym and in the ceilings above. “‘We should get coffee’ guy strikes again”

Ed. Note: You should not feel obligated to share your phone number with this person, or anyone else for that matter, if you don’t want to. I advise going into a store/office if there is one nearby and asking for help from someone (if you are outside.) If he continues to not leave you alone, you should consider calling the police. This is not normal behavior. You should have no guilt in protecting yourself after politely attempting to end the conversation. If he won’t leave you alone, your safety is paramount.

Have other people been complaining about the amount of leftover salt from the snowstorm? I swept up a large section of Kalorama Park the other day, and put it in the trashcan, and the workers poured out into the bike lane.”

“One cigarette flicked and who the hell knows?”

“Dear PoPville,

The Rock Creek Tennis bubble (run by Guest Services) has been having its issues this year with the heat getting knocked out for several weeks and then the bubble came down because of snow. It’s operational now but I wonder how safe it is. Came across the jerry-rigged system for what I assume is for heat. One cigarette flicked and who the hell knows? Anyone know who certifies a subcontractor and their work on NPS land?”

UPDATE: “The designated propane storage area is a temporary setup that complies with safety regulations. Storing propane indoors is not permitted, which is why it has been placed outside, as indicated by the posted warning signs and fencing around the area. (more…)
