After a shockingly and inexcusably bad French onion soup at Le Diplomate – (Tasty enough broth but full of mushy onions and a handful of wet bread, topped with a thick, impenetrable slab of plasticy cheese.) I’m looking for the real, delicious French onion soup. Silky rich broth, perfectly caramelized onions topped with cheesy toasted crouton. That Cracker Barrel worthy travesty did motivate me to make my own for a French onion soup dinner party, but aside from that, where can I just go enjoy it?”
Side query: I went to dinner with friends the other night and a couple shared a french onion soup. I was aghast. Is it legit for a couple to share a single bowl of french onion soup? Any soup?
