“Dear PoPville,
I live on Willard and there are two trucks at the end by 18th that have flat tires and haven’t been moved for weeks. They keep getting ticketed and no one will move them! (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
In search of gardening advice for hot months and extended stays out of town. I’m fairly novice in gardening but finally invested in some hydrangeas in our backyard that I’d hate to part with over an extended vacation (3 weeks) in August. In search of advice on how to keep them watered and alive (drip hose?) or of any watering services that deal with outdoor plants.”
Ed. Note: Please send your great garden hauls via email to [email protected] with Garden Haul in the subject line and let me know what you’ve grown and what neighborhood you are in. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Our house in Dupont Circle has been infested with rats since January, and we’re at our wits end. We keep traps out and have tried to fill holes in the wall where we can, but we can’t seem to keep them at bay. Our landlord has an exterminator on retainer, but he’s useless- comes maybe once a month, sets a trap or two and leaves.
Can anyone suggest a pest removal company that actually investigates the problem to find the root cause? (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Kind of unique — it’s a sandwich shop inside the existing bodega, DC MINI SUPERMARKET Beer & Wine ATM. I got the bacon, egg and cheese (the Harley on their menu, here). It was awesome. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I hope you can help me track down some amazing Good Samaritans to whom I will be forever indebted. On Tuesday evening (6/14), my husband was biking up sixteenth street when he went into sudden cardiac arrest. From what I understand, he was able to get off his bike and onto the sidewalk before collapsing unconscious and without a heart beat. Some quick thinking bystanders started administering CPR and called 911. They continued to do CPR until the EMTs were able to get there and take over. According to my husband’s doctors, had they not been there and acted as quickly as they did, my husband would not have survived. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I’ve seen this thing twice now, once in front of my house near 14th and Varnum and then recently in Adams Morgan. There’s no writing on the car that would indicate why there is a mysterious multicolored boulder-type object on top. Any clue?”
Why it’s the ‘Cloud Car’, of course!!

“Dear PoPville,
I am part of a 7-unit condo building serviced by Republic Services for trash and recycling pick-up. We just learned that Republic Services is increasing our monthly rate over 3x (from $179 to $613). This is not resulting in any increase in services but they are claiming “The prior owner [Tenleytown Trash] received major discounts at the dump sites which Republic Services do not.”
Such a large rate hike is absolutely absurd and not something our condo fees can absorb. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I am looking for in-person, adult group music classes in DC (particularly for clarinet or violin). Does anyone have any suggestions?”

Update: “The owner and dog were found yesterday. The dog has been taken into a 10 day quarantine by animal control. We found out today he has a current rabies vaccine (big relief). We are uncertain what will happen after the 10days, but at present it sounds like he will be released to his prior owner (who was questioned, but not taken into custody). A concern for ongoing public safety persists. The immediate threat of the dog and rabies has been removed, but potentially only for the next 9 days.”
“Dear PoPville,
Dog Attack: Yesterday my 1.5-year-old was attacked by an unleashed pit-bull at the Park at LeDroit. Please help us find the man in the video and his dog, we need to confirm rabies is not a threat and ensure the dog is not a threat to others.
Details: ~11am yesterday a man (middle aged, African American) and his dog (white pit-bull with black spots) came to the Park at LeDroit, yelled at the Nannie’s and babies about how this was his park and then his dog attacked my son at the splash pad. (more…)
