“DC Govt Must Take Action to Support Migrants Bused to DC”

“Dear PoPville,

For almost three months, Governor Abbott has been busing migrants from Texas to DC. Buses arrive 6 days a week from the early hours of the morning to late at night. For 11 weeks the DMV community has been welcoming migrants arriving on buses, with NO help from the DC government. The community has received over 90 buses, carrying close to 3,000 people and spent around $200k of grassroots raised money doing so. This involves welcoming buses, purchasing travel tickets, arranging transportation and accompaniment to bus terminals and airports, responding to medical and other basic needs, and providing shelter for an increased flow of buses from Texas. “Without limiting their free speech rights – what can those who wait for the bus, work, or live/work from home in the area do?”

“Dear PoPville,

There are many that live/work/commute near the Columbia Heights busy block of 14th and Irving St NW. About twice a week (Wednesdays and Fridays) there are 2 individuals who yell into an amplified speaker by the Columbia Heights metro and bus stop near the Truist Bank & ATM, and D’Vines. They can be heard for blocks and for hours on end, and if one is waiting for the bus, one’s ears ring for quite some time – it is that loud. Having lived in the area and in DC for decades, I love and expect city noise, but again – these 2 particular individuals don’t just use an amplified speaker, they yell into an amplified speaker, way above and beyond others who preach, sing, or share their thoughts in the neighborhood.

Asking politely to lower the volume does no good. Getting assistance with DCRA is not an easy ask even though their own regulations state: (more…)

“Realtor/Developer Misrepresenting Square Footage”

“Dear PoPville,

A developer in my block flipped a rowhouse into a multi-unit condo over four years ago. Only two of the four units have sold, but the developer (and realtor) have repeatedly misrepresented certain aspects of the listing — the most glaring being the square footage of the units listed. (more…)
