“Condo Parking Garage Rules”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m wondering if others have experienced what seems to be an arbitrary rule about using a private garage parking space for storage?

I own a condo in a fairly new building that includes a parking space in an underground garage. Every few months, we (and others in the building) get a notice from the association about removing any items from the space. We usually have things like camping chairs and a golf pushcart in the front of the spot; nothing that is in the way of other people getting to their spots or to the elevator. It’s a pain to leave these things in our car permanently and we don’t have space in our condo to store them either.

The association claims it’s a fire code thing. Can anyone confirm this? I’d like to try to change the rule if it’s possible, especially considering how much I paid for the condo, our HOA fees, and the additional monthly parking fee we pay. IT’S MY SPOT! I should be allowed to do whatever I want.

P.S. I realize this is a rather silly problem to have given the state of the world, but still it’s a pain.”
