Anyone have any idea what the DMV considers to be “temporary” in terms of addresses and residential parking permits?
My family will be making a temporary move within DC and we’re trying to figure out parking options. We currently have an RPP for the neighborhood we’re in now, but are moving to another neighborhood–Columbia Heights–temporarily (a few months, so too long for a friend to print out a Visitor Parking Pass, which is only up to 15 days, right?). I thought we’d just change our address and pay for another RPP from the DMV (and then do it again a few months later when we have to move out of the temporary accommodations), but the DMV says that when you change your address with them “You may not list a temporary address and/or PO Box as your residence.” (more…)

Readers have noted that contesting a parking ticket often results in reduced fines. I was recently dinged when my registration/parking permit lapsed on Sunday, but I didn’t renew/print the temporary registration until like 9 am on Monday. Of course parking enforcement had rolled by and given me 2 tickets totalling $130 by then. (The devil works hard but parking enforcement works harder!) (more…)

I’m reaching out as a DC business owner that works in the construction industry to see if other businesses and/or DC residents have been told by DCRA, now known as DOB/DLCP, that records of their projects permitted inspections are not on file? Myself and one other business owner have recently been told that Pepco was never informed of a final inspection to get their side of a heavy-up or supply lines change because DCRA never sent them over the final inspection reports. In another case, another business owner I know was recently told that they had a permit open that had never been inspected even though the owner already had the C of O in hand, which meant the inspection had occurred. When my company followed up with DOB for our client, who is still waiting on Pepco, we were told the final inspection had never been done, therefore because it was beyond a year from the date the permit was pulled, we would need to pull a new permit and get a final inspection. We recently received a flyer from the DC Department of Buildings, inviting us to convert our home from being a “tax lot” to a “lot of record”. They make it sound like this will make it easier/cheaper to get permits sometime in the future…? (more…)
