“Dear PoPville,

Looking for your favorite carrot cakes in the DC area? Personally, I’m partial to the Parkway Deli’s carrot cake, but as this is for my grandmother’s 87th birthday party next weekend I want to explore the full array of available options to make sure I chose something especially delicious. Thanks for your help!”

“Dear PoPville,

I was googling around on-line for info on local-ish transom artists, and found this old PoPville article! Unfortunately, it looks like most of these companies from 2010 are no longer. Any chance we can revisit this thread and see if folks have new recommendations?”

“Dear PoPville,

I was with my 12-year-old daughter at Fleet Feet on Columbia Road (1841 Columbia Rd NW) around 3:30 pm yesterday (Sunday) when a group of 4 or 5 teens walked in and asked a few questions about shoes and other items — and then suddenly grabbed a bunch of stuff and ran out. It was jarring. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Over the last month+ I’ve noticed an embassy at Connecticut and Kalorama has regularly engaged a security detail to stop right-of-way traffic on Kalorama allowing a stream of vehicles to exit their private parking garage all heading in separate directions, not a motorcade. Is this legal?”

“Dear PoPville,

Help! I’m hoping you can suggest a couple of great restaurants or activities for a 30th birthday for next week. I’m not sure what I want to do but I’m not looking for super fancy either, something more fun/casual and then a night out after. This is on Thursday the 16th.”

“Dear PoPville,

Anyone have any idea what the DMV considers to be “temporary” in terms of addresses and residential parking permits?

My family will be making a temporary move within DC and we’re trying to figure out parking options. We currently have an RPP for the neighborhood we’re in now, but are moving to another neighborhood–Columbia Heights–temporarily (a few months, so too long for a friend to print out a Visitor Parking Pass, which is only up to 15 days, right?). I thought we’d just change our address and pay for another RPP from the DMV (and then do it again a few months later when we have to move out of the temporary accommodations), but the DMV says that when you change your address with them “You may not list a temporary address and/or PO Box as your residence.” (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Readers have noted that contesting a parking ticket often results in reduced fines. I was recently dinged when my registration/parking permit lapsed on Sunday, but I didn’t renew/print the temporary registration until like 9 am on Monday. Of course parking enforcement had rolled by and given me 2 tickets totalling $130 by then. (The devil works hard but parking enforcement works harder!) (more…)
