Solid State Books is now spreading the good news on twitter:

“Coming soon to @TheApolloDC!”

The Apollo is also home to, of course, Whole Foods and The Wydown Coffee Bar.

Solid State’s website says:

“Solid State Books will operate as a full-service general interest bookstore with a deep and diverse selection of fiction and non-fiction titles curated to appeal to neighborhood residents of all ages as well as to the many visitors from other parts of DC, Virginia, Maryland, and beyond. Solid State Books will have extensive children’s book and young adult sections to fully serve our smallest readers. Our deep slate of programming will include author readings and signings, children’s story hours, book groups, local interest panels, political conversations and more! To better meet the needs of our clientele, we will also have a coffee bar with a delicious selection of snacks, beer, and wine. We can’t wait to see you in the store!”

Will be interesting to see if that will be some coffee saturation or not?

From the Mayor’s Office:

“Events DC, the official convention and sports authority for the District of Columbia, announced that its Board of Directors and Apple have finalized terms and will execute the lease for a global flagship Apple store. Under the lease terms, the location of the store will be the Carnegie Library at Mt. Vernon Square, the center of a newly transformed convention and entertainment district in downtown DC. Furthermore, a Tri-Party Agreement among Events DC, Apple, and the Historical Society of Washington, D.C. will also be executed, memorializing a co-location of Apple and the Historical Society as part of the reimagined vision at Carnegie Library.

“The partnership between Events DC and Apple demonstrates an innovative approach to preserving the historic character of our world-renowned Carnegie Library while creating a cultural experience that welcomes residents from across the District of Columbia and visitors from around the world,” said Mayor Muriel Bowser. “We look forward to the Carnegie Library re-opening its doors as a destination in DC’s Other Mall – our thriving retail center in the central business district.”

Within the signed agreement, Apple will lease a portion of the Carnegie Library, comprising approximately 18,896 square-feet of interior space. Apple will also have the same rights to program its portion of the building and grounds as agreed upon in the letter of intent. The lease term is ten years with two five-year options. The Historical Society, under its existing 99-year lease, will continue to operate its museum and library in the building, with approximately 13,000 square-feet of space on the basement level, second floor, and third floor. A reader reports:

“Tried to stop into the Barracks Row Capital Teas at lunch today and found the store locked and dark, and their phone number disconnected. A quick e-mail to Capital Teas corporate office got this response:

“Thank you for your message. We recently decided to close our Barracks Row store, as though we enjoyed the location very much, it was not financially viable for us to remain open there. I apologize for this inconvenience. We remain open at our other locations in the area — Dupont Circle, Mosaic District, National Harbor, and more.”

“Dear PoPville,

Was wondering if there is any intel on the former LuLulemon space at 1461 P street NW. That whole block is looking a bit sad, having had Pitango gelato replaced with a cellphone store, LuLulemon leaving a vacancy, and now RIP Tortilla Coast. Very strange considering what a ‘hot’ block it is.

Hoping it doesn’t become YET ANOTHER real estate brokerage office….”

Last week a reader shared some renderings showing an Apple store at Union Market. There was much skepticism but now another tipster reports:

“One of the manager’s in the market told me about a month ago that Apple was scoping out the space directly behind the market for a store. He was pretty certain it was a done deal but nothing had/has been announced.”

STAY TUNED.

We’ve had a helluva UNIQLO roller coaster ride. Looks like the first D.C. proper location is finally happening!! A tipster sends the sweet words:

“it appears Uniqlo is coming to Union Station. They have numerous help wanted ads that were just posted late in the week for a new store opening there.”

My guess – 1st floor – old swatch store all the way back to the former cd store

And indeed – here it is in all it’s glory:
