It’s not yet confirming the Union Station location but I’ll take it!! Washington Business Journal reports:

“The retailer has signed a lease to do a temporary location at 1090 F St. NW in Penn Quarter, which was formerly home to an American Apparel store.”

STAY TUNED for the pop up’s opening date and more on Union Station. (Baruch Ha’shem)

We’ve had a helluva UNIQLO roller coaster ride. Looks like the first D.C. proper location is finally happening!! A tipster sends the sweet words:

“it appears Uniqlo is coming to Union Station. They have numerous help wanted ads that were just posted late in the week for a new store opening there.”

My guess – 1st floor – old swatch store all the way back to the former cd store

And indeed – here it is in all it’s glory:

While Uniqlo coming to DC proper may still be wishful thinking – CityPaper got confirmation from the Capitol Crossing developers that Mario Batali’s Eataly is “definitively happening…no earlier than 2017” according to Property Group Partners. This is part of the huge Capital Crossing Development which you can read about here.

So I guess the bet is, who will come first Uniqlo or Eataly?

Thanks to a reader for passing on from reddit. A user noted that if you type Uniqlo into google it comes up as CityCenterDC (825 10th St, NW) – see screenshot above I took a few minutes ago. Almost exactly a year ago we thought craigslist had confirmed uniqlo when an ad for “UNIQLO Manager Candidate Program – Retail Sales – new” popped up for Washington, DC. Yes, yes, not everyone likes their clothing. Noted. But for those who do – this is one more reason to get excited! Though it still may be worth taking with a grain of a salt as their website makes no mention of a Washington DC expansion:

“Our clothes are functional, designed with innovative features and available in a wide range of colors and styles. Our designers are artistic apparel engineers, dedicated to finding elegant solutions to common garment dilemmas. We now operate more than 1,400 stores in 16 countries worldwide. This fall we will open 18 new stores in the US, in addition to the already 21 in the Northeast and the San Francisco Bay Area. We will be expanding into new markets including Boston, Los Angeles and Philadelphia metro areas.”

UPDATE: CityCenter Rep says they aren’t coming. According to OP, Uniqlo says it’s news to them so they can’t confirm or deny.

Yesterday we checked out The apartments at CityCenter and learned that a Tumi store was the first confirmed retailer. In the comments some interesting news came out – specifically a UNIQLO is coming according to this job listing:

“UNIQLO Manager Candidate Program – Retail Sales – new

Company: UNIQLO
Location: Washington, DC

Date Posted: October 21, 2013

UNIQLO is seeking Experienced Store Manager Candidates! At UNIQLO we are seeking individuals who are committed to becoming business leaders in the retail industry. Our ambition is to open 10 – 20 stores annually in the United States and become the #1 Specialty Apparel Retailer. With over 1,200 stores globally, together we believe we can change the world!”

Yes!!!

But in less exciting scuttlebutt is word that the Apple deal may have fallen through. A commenter hears a Gucci store could be taking that space. I haven’t heard that but another source also tells me that he hears Apple has walked. Hopefully they can resurrect that deal because I think an Apple store would do very well there. More info when/if it becomes available.

Ed. Note: In December the Post wrote, “D.C. got everything it wanted out of CityCenterDC — except the crowds.

Also Uniqlo, where the hell are you?!??!

From a press release:

“CityCenterDC, the 10-acre, landmark, mixed-use development located in the heart of downtown Washington, D.C. today premiered a new marketing and advertising campaign that reflects the vibrant, one-of-a-kind experience residents and visitors have when visiting the project.

The campaign, all shot onsite at CityCenterDC, focuses on the energy, place and design that make up the three city blocks that have enlivened Downtown D.C. with world-class shopping, dining, and events. The tagline, “District of Joy,” is built around the five senses to show how the simple pleasures of everyday life become extraordinary at CityCenterDC.
