Back in early Jan. we noted Unique Boutique was closing at 1145 19th St, NW just south of M Street. Taking it’s place will be a Nature’s Table. Their website says:

Nature’s Table Cafe has been a family owned business for over 34 years. We opened our first franchise in 1987. Currently there are approximately 75 Nature’s Table Cafes in ten different states from Florida and Virginia to California and Washington.

At Nature’s Table we are proud to offer great menu choices like Gourmet Wraps and Paninis, Classic Sandwiches, Signature Salads and Flavorful Rice Bowls. Our original Chicken Salad and Vegetarian Chili from the early days of Nature’s Table pair up nicely with our globally inspired Sesame Thai Wraps and Chipotle Chicken Rice Bowls. It’s a blend of the traditional and the new, the healthy and indulgent. It’s the freshest ingredients made to order!

You can see their menus here.

Any fans?

Thanks to David for sending the photo above. Back in Sept. 2012 we learned that Thally would be coming to 1316 9th Street, NW. From their liquor license application:

“New Restaurant. A modern, energetic bistro serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Background music will be provided. Sidewalk Cafe with 10 seats. Occupancy Load of 99.”

I spoke with owner Sherman Outhuok who tells me that the build-out should take approximately 12 weeks with an anticipated late June opening. Sherman is currently a general manager/bartender at the great Columbia Heights’ spot Maple located at 3418 11th St, NW. He tells me that he and his partner chef Ron Tanaka (formerly of New Heights in Woodley Park) plan on opening a very comfortable neighborhood spot serving contemporary American fare. There will also be a good selection of wine by the glass (24), draft beers, and cocktails to compliment the food. They plan to keep the place casual and at a lower price point than some of the other newly opened restaurants.

And for those curious about the name – Thally comes from a carriage house located in the alley that was named Tally-Ho back in the day. That and Sherman’s daughter is nick-named Tally – thus Thally was born.

Stay tuned for updates on the menu and the space as they get closer to opening.

GBD is located in the former Yola space at 1323 Connecticut Ave, NW.

Their facebook page announces:

“It’s official, gang! Friday we will be opening for breakfast & lunch starting at 8 AM. We can’t wait to see you!”

For those not familiar – their website says:

GBD (which gets its name from the restaurant kitchen shorthand for golden, brown and delicious) pairs the sweet and savory specialties of husband and wife team Chef Kyle Bailey & Pastry Chef Tiffany MacIsaac the culinary masterminds behind Birch & Barley.

Located just south of Dupont Circle, GBD is a casual & lively neighborhood spot that pulls triple duty serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. In the morning, guests find a warm and inviting spot to enjoy one of MacIsaac’s fresh homemade doughnuts with a cup of coffee from premium craft roaster Mad Cap coffee. Ranging from the traditional fried-to-order vanilla glaze and classic coffee cake to the more gourmet grapefruit-campari old fashion and butterscotch, bourbon & bacon brioche doughnuts, GBD has a doughnut for every craving.

The fried chicken and menu of sides will take center stage at lunchtime, while the evening will see an expanded dinner menu as well as a snack menu with plenty of odds & ends for sharing. GBD will also serve as a destination for craft beer, fantastic wines and one-of-a-kind specialty punches in the evening.

Check out some of the doughnuts here.

I was able to attend a preview party last night and I can def. vouch for the D. Everything I tasted from the doughtnuts to the chicken to the drinks were delicious.

15th and H St, NW via google street view

Yesterday the Washington Business Journal broke the news of plans for a huge restaurant coming to 15th and H Street, NW:

“The restaurant is expected to occupy a huge chunk of space, 18,000 square feet, with a total occupancy upward of 800.”

A very good source hears that it’s looking like it will be a Joe’s Crab Shack.

UPDATE: What a difference a word makes – as many commenters already predicted – it’s not a Joe’s Crab Shack but rather a Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak and Stone Crab – according to the Washington Business Journal:

“The District’s version of Joe’s, a popular seafood and steak restaurant with locations in the Windy City and Las Vegas, will seat more than 500, with total occupancy of nearly 800, catering to the office and tourist set alike.”

Capitol Prague restaurant is coming to the former Morso restaurant spaces in Georgetown. Their website says:

“Contemporary Czech and Slovak Restaurant & Bar in Georgetown!”

The Georgetowner reports:

Capitol Prague will operate a restaurant and a coffee shop two doors away, said manager Petra Foist, who added, “We hope to open in mid-April.” With Czech and Slovak cuisine—schnitzel, goulash, braised pork and dumplings—as well as various beers

It’ll be interesting to compare to Shaw’s Bistro Bohem.
