From a press release:

“As fall quickly changes to winter, the team at Luke’s Lobster is ready to roll out its winter menu. On Tuesday, November 12th two piping hot dishes hit the menu: lobster mac ‘n’ cheese and lobster grilled cheese. These tried and true comfort foods, now with a Luke’s Lobster twist, are perfect for dispelling your winter chills and cost just $12 each.

For Luke’s mac ‘n’ cheese, the team turned to Hurricane’s Soup in Greene, Maine—the same folks who create their award-winning chowders and bisques. Hurricane’s is a small company owned by the Phil Wilbur and his family. Phil has collaborated with the Luke’s team to create a classic, creamy macaroni and cheese with cheddar from Pineland Farms in Maine to accompany the steamed lobster you’ve come to know and love. The Luke’s crew gently hand mixes lobster into each order of mac ‘n cheese so that it stays fresh and perfectly cooked. Lobster grilled cheese, a winter favorite from last year, is back, due to ravenous demand. And it will be as good as you remembered—Maine-made organic white bread that’s buttered, toasted and filled with melted Gruyere cheese and Luke’s lobster.

In addition to lobster-filled comfort foods, our coolers will be stocked with seasonal beers, cold drinks that still fill you with warmth. At all three DC-area locations, Luke’s will also offer vegetarian mac ’n’ cheese for those with herbivorous friends for just $7.

If you can’t quite wait for the 12th to get some lobster mac in your belly, you have a sneak preview opportunity: Luke’s debuts at the District Flea this Saturday, November 9, and they’ll be dishing the new treat on site at 945 Florida Ave NW from 10-5.”

From a press release:

“Black Restaurant Group announces that effective November 27, 2013, Addie’s Restaurant located at 11120 Rockville Pike in Rockville, Md., will close to the public. Negotiations on the lease for the 18-year-old restaurant have come to an impasse, but owners, Jeff and Barbara Black plan to reopen Addie’s in a new location within the DC metro area. Details on the new space will be released once confirmed. The restaurant will remain open to the public and operate as Addie’s for the next three weeks. Special menu items featuring the “best hits” from Addie’s over the years will be featured for the next three weeks through the restaurant’s last day of service on November 27.

The current lease does carry through December and Addie’s will be used as an event space for private parties during the holidays. For private events and functions at Addie’s contact Jen Dyson at 202-319-1612 or jdysonevents(at)blackrestaurantgroup.com.

Jeff and Barbara Black opened Addie’s, their first restaurant, in December 1995. Amid much skepticism, the chef couple strategically decided to open a restaurant in a neighborhood that was lacking in dining options. Addie’s quickly grew to become one of the most popular restaurants in Rockville, and is where many of Black Restaurant Group’s leading chefs, general managers and servers started before growing within the company – whether staying at Addie’s or moving to other sister restaurants. Jeff Black and Black Restaurant Group have promised all Addie’s staff a job within the company’s restaurants, either at the forthcoming Republic in Takoma Park, or at existing restaurants, BlackSalt, Black’s Bar & Kitchen, Black Market Bistro and Pearl Dive Oyster Palace.

To honor the legacy of Addie’s, named after Jeff Black’s grandmother, nostalgic dishes from the last 18 years will be resurrected and offered daily.

Black Restaurant Group would like to thank the many patrons, staff and vendors for whom the success of Addie’s would not be possible. Jeff, Barbara and team look forward to reopening Addie’s in a new location, and will share more details once final.”

So with Sushiko and Cafe Japone closing plus Perry’s switching to sushi in Adams Morgan, well it got me thinking about sushi. While we’ve spoken a lot about Ramen lately with Taan, Daikaya, and Toki Underground well, I feel like we’ve been neglecting sushi. For this week’s Friday Question of the Day, I thought it was a good time to reassess the best sushi in the District? And if it’s really really good, best sushi inside the beltway?

Years ago when we spoke about sushi options in DC there were tons of fans of Sushi Taro at 1503 17th Street, NW. Still a lot of fans of Sushi Taro? I think I’m leaning towards Izakaya Seki at 1117 V Street, NW as my favorite. Where’s yours?

“Dear PoPville,

Do you happen to know what food joint us coming in at the corner of 17th and H streets NW, right next to the Emirates airline office? I walk by it all the time but the permits are for the building owner for first tenant build-out so it’s not possible to see who is going into the space.”

Washington Business Journal reports it will be the District’s 21st Au Bon Pain.

I got some really sweet scuttlebutt from a pretty reliable source yesterday. They hear one of the restaurant spaces for City Market at O will be filled by the folks behind Mintwood Place in Adams Morgan. You can see Mintwood’s menu here. Mintwood Place was recently named best new restaurant at the 2013 RAMMY Awards.

Another reliable source says that they hear one of the restaurant spots could be taken by Top Chef season 7 winner Kevin Sbraga:

“a New Jersey native and winner of Bravo’s, Top Chef (season 7) Washington D.C. By September 2011, he became the chef-owner of Sbraga, a modern American restaurant on the Avenue of the Arts in Philadelphia.”

You can see Sbraga’s menu here.

It’s not clear if there is room for both of these restaurants or only one. Looking forward to learning more! Updates when new info becomes available.

I was fortunate to attend a tasting last night and this place is ridiculously good. This is a huge score for the neighborhood.

From a press release:

Revive On-The-Go (the dine-out arm of Revive Events and Catering in the Bloomingdale neighborhood) announces the launch of DCity Smokehouse. The highly sought-after eatery will serve up classic savory barbecue dishes with an artisan touch.

DCity Smokehouse will be led by young culinary talent Rob Sonderman who has a serious passion for barbecue and soul food. The recent (2009) Culinary Institute of America graduate got his start in dining and classic French restaurants in DC and Boston working for James Beard award winning chefs Jeff Buben of Bistro Bis, Vidalia and Woodward Table and Tony Maws of Craigie on Main in Cambridge. He also worked under recently certified Master Chef Robert Mancuso in Boston. As Sonderman’s last stint, the chef held the title of pit master at Hill Country Barbecue in Penn Quarter. Now in attempt to spread his culinary wings, Sonderman has partnered with Revive to launch DCity Smokehouse. His selection of barbecue dishes will pair nicely with Revive’s classic but fresh soul food and comfort food menu.
