From a press release:

“In Washington, D.C., a restaurant is a place to entertain and impress business clients, negotiate political compromises, or enjoy a leisurely meal. However, dining at one of DC’s hottest restaurants requires planning weeks, or even months in advance, or knowing someone on the inside who can wrangle a coveted last-minute reservation. With today’s launch of restaurant reservation service Table8, available via iPhone and Android apps and through Table8.com, guests now have the opportunity to book that important dinner at a moment’s notice. “DC is famous for high-powered business dinners, and Table8 is the 21st century version of the maître d’,” says Table8 co-founder Santosh Jayaram. Users simply sign up for a free membership and select a guaranteed table from a highly curated list that serves as a guide to DC’s best restaurants. Tables reserved at peak, or otherwise sold-out, times are offered for a small reservation fee, which is shared with the restaurant; all other times, the reservations are on the house.

After a successful San Francisco launch in March 2014, and Los Angeles in September 2014, Table8 debuts today in DC with 17 prestigious restaurant partners, including: (more…)

Thanks to a reader for sending word about the switch:

“I’ll miss Azi’s but with compass and Colombe owning the yuppie friendly coffee market, and Starbucks sucking up the other traffic it probably made sense for them to transition a bit. The food is really, really solid. Happy to have a great option for cheapish food in the neighborhood besides ivy and coney dogs.”

Thanks to a reader for sending these devastating photos Saturday morning from a fire in the former Murphy’s/future Bar Civita [“A modern American and Italian influenced restaurant in historic Woodley Park in Washington, D.C.“]. I’ve sent an email to the Bar Civita folks and will update when I hear back. Hopefully it won’t push the planned opening too far back.

Good update from owner Liam Civita:

“It is definitely an unfortunate setback, but it is only a setback. It will delay opening but not by much, as a majority of the damage was on the patio which we were replacing anyways in a couple of weeks. The fire department did a tremendous job in controlling and putting out the fire.”

UPDATE: Tickets now available.

From an email:

“Mess Hall is pleased to present “Ramen World”, a collaborative culinary event to take place on Sunday, February 8th, 2015 featuring some of DC’s best culinary professionals, music, specialty cocktails and most importantly – food.

Ramen World will showcase DC’s ramen-heavyweights Eric Bruner-Yang from Toki Underground and Katsuya Fukushima from Daikaya. It doesn’t end at ramen; guests can expect to enjoy custom creations from Adam Morgan’s hugely popular Donburi, and foodtruck rockstar PhoWheels. The US Bartenders’ Gild will be creating craft cocktails to complement the many dishes. Desserts will be provided by SnoCream Company. Additional participants will be announced at a later date. This event will highlight some of the most popular and renowned brands in the DC metropolitan area, in addition to fostering relationships between chefs, restaurants, and customers. This embodies Mess Hall’s core values.

The much anticipated project from the owner of Petworth Citizen, Crane & Turtle, Room 11, Upshur St. Books etc., Slim’s Diner, has launched their facebook page and gotten a lot of folks, me included, super stoked (thanks to all who sent emails):

“I am excited to launch our newest project. It should take us about 6 months to finish construction and we plan to open in the summer.

Look for frequent updates here and let us know if you have any suggestions. We hope that Slim’s Diner will be a gathering place for everyone in the neighborhood.

– Paul Ruppert, owner”

And holy cow do they have an awesome old photo, streetcar and all, of Georgia and Upshur back in the day:

“Indefinite” suspension of @DCGov_ABRA license for @PanasGourmet on P Street in #DupontCircle. Wonder why. @PoPville”

Panas has had a liquor license since 2012 – anyone hear what happened?

Update from @DCGov_ABRA:

“It was suspended because the fines were not paid. Here’s more information

In other sorta scuttlebutt confirmation – New Columbia Heights kinda confirms our scuttlebutt from over the summer:

“A friend was eating at a Chick-Fil-A in Crystal City and asked the owner/operator about rumors that a location open in DC. The owner said “you heard correct,” that there would be a Chick-Fil-A at 3100 14th Street NW.”

Back in July we heard Chick Fil A was coming to the former Lime Fresh space which closed back in Dec. 2013. Stay tuned for coming soon signage (protests?) and an opening date.
