Update on Nando’s coming to H Street – Zoning Approval Granted – Opening Late Fall/Early Winter

From a Nando’s spokesperson via email:

“Nando’s got some great news today from the DC Board of Zoning Adjustment. Thanks to overwhelming support from our H Street neighbors, the BZA approved our special exception to operate at 411 and 413 H Street, NE. We can’t wait to get our hammers swinging, light up our grills and bring our spicy PERi-PERi chicken to H Street! We are now hoping to hatch on H Street by late fall or early winter.”

Ed. Note: Woodley Park also has BZA approval but no projected opening date yet.

“Boundary Road is hosting a pop-up for Sally’s Middle Name on Sunday, March 29. It’ll be from 10pm to 12am, which we know is a little late in the evening for a lot of people, but is when Boundary Road traditionally hosts its pop-ups. I promise it’ll be worth staying up a little past bedtime. Chef Sam will be assisted in the kitchen by Chef John Manolatos of Cashion’s Eat Place.

Red Robin Burger Works Opens Downtown in former Boloco Burriotos Space – More Coming

Ed. Note: This is the former Boloco Burritos space that abruptly closed in December. I stopped by yesterday and was told more Red Robin’s are coming too.

Black and Orange becoming/becomes Bo$$ Burger & Breakfast at 14th and U St, NW

Last week a reader noted that Black and Orange burgers had closed at 14th and U St, NW. A number of commenters and twitter followers wrote that it still looked open. On Saturday Charles wrote:

“I just ate at the 14th and U location last night… There were also no signs that it was going to shut down in any way”

Last week I also noted that Black and Orange’s phone was disconnected and their website was down. Another subtle sign that Black and Orange is no more:

So I stopped by on Sunday to see what was up. Though they were closed at the time – it appears we have a name change going on:

UPDATE: Confirmed. Jose Andres’ Beefsteak also coming to Dupont?

UPDATE from the Washington Post. Confirmed for early summer.

A tipster says yes. In that row just south of the Dupont North metro exit where the Sweetgreen, ShopHouse and Burger joint are. If true this would be the 2nd Beefsteak, following the one in Foggy Bottom. You can read about the “vegetable-focused fast casual restaurant” here.

Shaw’s Tavern Sold to Owners of Front Page in Dupont? License Transfer Pending

Whoa – a reader passes on from DCRA:

“A transfer of ownership was approved to 520 Florida Avenue Restaurant LLC for Shaw’s Tavern’s license on Wednesday, March 11; however, the license has not yet been issued. Several outstanding documents still need to be provided to ABRA, including a certificate of occupancy, before the license can be issued to the new owner.”

The reader says the new ownership group are the same folks who own Front Page, located in Dupont at 1333 New Hampshire Ave, NW. Updates when more info is known.
