From a press release:

“The popular neighborhood coffeehouse at Politics and Prose will re-open officially on April 14, following a ten-week closure for renovations. Renamed The Den, the coffeehouse will be operated by Matt Carr, who founded the excellent nearby market and eatery Little Red Fox with his wife Jena. The Den will feature expanded seating, improved furnishings and lighting, and a new menu created by Carr that includes dinner items as well as wine and craft beer.

The changes mark the first major renovation of the coffeehouse since its start in 1993. P&P’s owners—Bradley Graham and Lissa Muscatine—worked with local architect Mark McInturff to ensure that the renovated space would retain the casual atmosphere and cozy feel that many in the neighborhood have enjoyed over the years. Visitors to The Den also will find the same superb coffee they’ve come to expect from the coffeehouse, along with a new and varied selection of made-to-order menu items. Food choices will include daily fresh baked pastries, tartines, soups, and cheese and charcuterie boards, and a much-anticipated new dessert, Pie Fries. Locally sourced, farm-to-table produce will be featured whenever possible.

The Den will be open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (more…)

From a press release:

Chix is hatching its third location this summer in Navy Yard: 1210 Half Street, SE Washington DC 20003. The fast casual concept aims to open in July, adjacent to the Navy Yard Metro stop and one block from Nationals Park. The space is 1,972 SqFt, and will have about 45 seats.

Chix will feature the same affordable menu as its other two stores, located at 2019 11th St NW (est. 2007) and 1121 14th St NW (est. 2013). We will be open 7 days a week and we will offer dine-in, takeout and delivery for lunch and dinner, as well as catering. The owners (married duo Lukas Umana and Victoria Garcia-Umana) plan on keeping the look very casual and simple like the other Chix restaurants – using mostly repurposed, recycled and eco-friendly construction materials. “When we design a space we don’t seek to replicate our other stores, rather we get inspired by the neighborhood and we shop around locally for unique used pieces that we reuse or repurpose,” said Victoria Garcia-Umana. A reader reports:

“Spoke with an employee and was told the inside is being redone and a relaunch of an Italian restaurant is going where spaghetti garden is located. Saw a draft menu online. No idea when it was opening. Hopefully soon since Pasta Mia closed.”

Spaghetti Garden’s website says:

“It all began in 1980 with two brothers and a dream.

In 1980 brothers Solemin and Iraj set foot in Adams Morgan and began preparing food they enjoyed eating upon arriving in America. They opened what was then the second restaurant in Adams Morgan and it was a great hit. Times changed, the baton has been passed and now a passionate culinary team with equally passionate bartenders have come together to bring small plates, spot on cocktails, great wines and select beers to Adams Morgan”
