It’s funny to look back at the sign Taylor first posted about the closure back in August:

“We’re closing shop for a few weeks for a quick fix up…”

Sfoglina inside the Park Van Ness building at 4465 Connecticut Ave, NW (at Yuma)
Finally!! Sfoglina is the pasta house from Fiola’s (et al) owner and Chef Fabio Trabocchi:
“Food binds us to each other. From the hands that prepare it to the friends you share it with, we cannot wait to spread the love in Van Ness!
Reservations are live! Find your table beginning Tuesday, 12/13″

It took a while but Huacatay is finally here! And it looks great:

From a press release:
“DC native Ari Gejdenson and his Mindful Restaurant Group opens Ari’s Diner, the first of their three restaurants opening in the Hecht Warehouse in Ivy City.
At the age of 22, Ari Gejdenson opened his first restaurant, an American diner, in Florence, Italy. Now, 12 years later, he opens the doors to his new diner, this time just a short distance from where he grew up in Northeast Washington DC.
“Diners are where I got my start, and I love them. I love the familiarity, the look, and obviously the all-day breakfast,” Gejdenson said.
The design is timeless American diner; green vinyl booths and a 16 stool counter. The menu is comprised of diner classics and a couple of twists, all made using high-quality and fresh ingredients. Classics like a two-egg breakfast and French toast join newcomers like a DC- inspired omelet filled with half smoke and mumbo sauce. Breakfast and lunch will be available all day, with a beverage selection of classic milkshakes, floats, and malts, as well as beer, wine, and a select choice of breakfast cocktails.
Ari’s Diner
Opening: December 9, 2016
Hours: 6 AM- 5 PM (breakfast and lunch) Tuesday-Sunday
Address: 2003 Fenwick St NE”

Thanks to all who emailed (also in yesterday’s rant/revel) this soul shaking news about Rumors. But once the shaking stops all is not lost. Back in May Borderstan reported District Anchor comes from the owner of Arlington’s Quarterdeck:
“The restaurant will serve crabs and beer…But Rumors won’t close, the source said. Instead, employees will serve seafood under the District Anchor banner during the day and sling drinks as Rumors late into the night.”
Stay tuned for more info as well as confirmation that the Rumors flag shall fly at night.

Looks like the new Shake Shack coming to Logan Circle will have outdoor seating wrapping around both 14th and Rhode Island. The just posted liquor license application says:
“New Restaurant. Sidewalk Café with 81 seats. Total Occupancy Load of 138.”
and hours are listed as: “Sunday through Saturday 11 am –11 pm”
Updates as they get closer to opening.

Whew! At first I thought it had closed for good. The “remodeling” sign just fell down. Looking forward to seeing how extension the reno is. I’m hopeful it’ll be like the new one in Logan. Stay tuned.

At the end of October we learned that Sorriso had closed after 13 years in Cleveland Park. At that time I heard some scuttlebutt that a new Turkish/Asian fusion restaurant will be taking over the space. And Dolan Uyghur Restaurant it shall be. Opening soon – stay tuned!

A little over a week ago I shared the great news that the former Döner Bistro space (previously Shawarma King) would become a BBQ spot from the original pit master at the original DCity Smokehouse. Now we know the name – Federalist Pig – Que 4 the People.

Take a peek at the menu here.
Their facebook says:
“Federalist Pig is a regional American barbecue restaurant in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington, DC.
We will be opening our doors this Friday!“
