The Shay, 1924 8th Street, NW is in the far left corner

Ed. Note: This will be in the Argent space which was previously a Kit and Ace.

From a press release:

“The team behind Duke’s Grocery and Duke’s Counter signed a lease to open the District’s first traditional Korean Barbeque restaurant in the Shaw neighborhood at 1924 8th Street NW. This will be the first Korean restaurant in Washington where food is cooked on an open-air grill embedded in each dining table. “Dear PoPville,

My family and I came across Addis Paris Cafe last weekend during their soft opening. They’ve taken over the spot next to Sun Cinema where the Lia Cafe used to be.

We stopped for some Ethiopian food and nutella crepes – both were great. Lovely lady running the place.

Very excited to have some good Ethiopian food (especially, while Zenenbech is out of commission) and crepes (since Napolean turned into Lapis) in the area.”

1400-1404 Wisconsin Avenue, NW

I keep forgetting to post this wild development. The liquor license placard for a restaurant TBD says:

“New Restaurant, serving Spanish cuisine/tapas with a vegetarian infusion. Sidewalk Café with 20 seats. Total Occupancy Load is 350 with seating for 200.”

This one is blowing my mind since it feels like Prince & Princess has been there forever. Plus I love track suits so this one stings a bit. Updates when we learn more specifics.

“Dear PoPville,

I was wondering what folks thought of the proposed increase in wage to tipped workers?

Where I work, a lot of industry folks from restaurants we all love have been meeting to discuss it frequently.  Sounds like it has a lot of owners concerned about the potential downfalls.  I recall Sally’s Middle Name first opened with this model but regressed to a traditional tipping model.  The states and cities this has been implemented seem to be weathering the change, but I’m curious if DCers are ready for even more expensive dishes, perhaps less service staff and the likelihood of restaurants closing.”

3704 14th Street, NW at Quincy looking north towards Taqueria Habanero, Mezcalero, Red Derby and Lyman’s. Not a bad little block.

From scuttlebutt in June 2017 to reality. Nice!

All the details from a press release:

“Chef Alfredo Solis announces his newest restaurant, Little Havana, slated to open this spring.

Located at 3704 14th Street NW, just a few doors down from Solis’ celebrated Mezcalero Cocina Mexicana, Little Havana will serve Cubano cuisine–Cuban food inspired by the entirety of Latin America. The menu will include soups, sandwiches, pastries, Cuban coffee, and medium-sized entrees.

At the helm of Little Havana is Chef Joseph Osorio, a chef trained at the French Culinary Institute and at the Queens, New York home of his Godmother, Mimi, a Cuban immigrant. (more…)

Tom reports:

joe and the juice at Vermont and K (1500 K St NW) is open. They told me they opened yesterday during the snow, but things were very slow. It appears to be a soft opening. They don’t have drip coffee yet (but can make you an Americano, called a “joe”.) Very cool place inside.”

Check out their menus here. Hours | M-F: 6am – 9pm; Sa-Su: 8am-8pm

From a Joe Juice rep:

Thanks to Amanda for sending:

“A few weeks ago you posted about the Hilltop on Sherman Avenue becoming Napoli Pasta Bar. This week, I noticed that they were open so I tried it out. I was really impressed! The owner previously worked at Café Milano and Lupo Verde and you can tell that he knows his pasta! The pasta, charcuterie and cocktails were delicious and the staff was friendly without being pushy or intrusive. I never went to the Hilltop so I don’t know how many changes were made, but the inside is beautifully decorated. There is a table made out of a Vespa scooter with a working headlight, which is pretty sweet. The waiter said that they have a happy hour discount on their beer and wine. Oh, and there is free bread and olive oil! I am a longtime resident of Sherman Avenue and I am excited (and a little surprised) to see a restaurant like this pop up on our street, so bring your friends, bring your kids and check it out!”

More photos and a message from the owner after the jump. (more…)
