Yesterday WAMU reported:

“The D.C. Council will vote next Tuesday on a bill repealing Initiative 77, the ballot measure approved by D.C. voters in June that would gradually raise the minimum wage paid to tipped workers.

The bill repealing Initiative 77 already has seven co-sponsors, the exact number needed to pass the Council. But because it is being considered as an emergency measure, it will need nine votes to pass, and would only remain in effect for 90 days. The Council would eventually have to vote on a permanent repeal bill.”

So should the Council repeal the bill completely, not at all or work on some sort of compromise?

To the polls!!

End of a mini era. From the owners of Good Silver:

“Saturday night we’ll be open for one last Michigan game (and then closed at 8 PM for a private party) and Sunday will be the last full day. Next Tuesday will be a Drink The Bar Dry party (no food) where all booze will be $5 (except cocktails. We’re already closing, don’t make us do work). (more…)

From Fiola:

“A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.
-Sir Winston Churchill

My team at Fiola make me proud. They perform to the highest level of professionalism and passion for our craft. On Monday night, an incident occurred that is not part of a normal dinner service. It required clearing a restaurant of protesters disguised as patrons at the bar and escorting Senator Ted Cruz and his wife through a side passage, while not skipping a beat with the other dinner guests who had joined us for a meal. Thanks to Craig and Daniel for sending:

“The broccoli bar has ampersand pizza signage up as of this evening”

On Tuesday we learned:

“Establishment is a fast, casual pizzeria tavern with a Total Occupancy Load of 106 and seating for 83.”

I still don’t get the name but hell, it’s memorable. Updates as they get closer to opening in the former Uprising Muffin space outside the Shaw metro.

5832 Georgia Avenue, NW. Previously Brightwood Bistro/Imm Thai

Thanks to Charlotte and Sara for sending:

“When I was passing through the Georgia/Missouri Ave intersection Saturday morning, I noticed an opening soon sign from “Milk and Honey Cafe present Catch 22″ on the former Imm Thai/Brightwood Bistro space.

Catch 22 will apparently feature Southern Seafood & Brunch. I wish them the best & hope they last!”

After an official motorcade was spotted at Lauriol Plaza last week, Cecilia asked us on twitter:

“Honestly, I live down the street from Lauriol. Why is that place so popular?! I think the last time I went there was at least 7 years ago; haven’t missed it.”

This resulted in lively responses, to say the least, so let’s go to the polls:

5014 Connecticut Avenue, NW

From an email:

I’m Eddie Cano – a cozy, family-friendly neighborhood Italian restaurant – will open in the heart of Chevy Chase (at 5014 Connecticut Avenue NW) this week.

About: I’m Eddie Cano (say it three times fast, and one will ultimately stumble upon the phonetic pronunciation of “Americano” in Italian) is the first independent venture from industry veterans Massimo Papetti (Assaggi Osteria, Cafe Milano) and former ThinkFoodGroup executive chef James Gee (Jaleo, China Chilcano).
