From the Good Silver:

“The Good Silver, located at 3410 11th St NW in Columbia Heights, is happy to announce we are switching things up in a big way. After a year-long identity crisis (“is it a cocktail bar, a sports bar, or a tinder spot?”), we’re tearing it all down and starting from scratch. So, we’ve combined two of our favorite things: deli sandwiches and booze. If your favorite cocktail is whiskey neat, and you believe the path to enlightenment is on top of pastrami piled high, you will be right at home at the new Good Silver. The food menu, from chef Mytia Crawley, features cured and smoked meats from new, local company Epic Curing. For beverages we’re sticking to bottles, cans, combos and cocktails that don’t require a PhD to appreciate (all $10 and under).

Menu and more after the jump. (more…)

From the fine folks at the Good Silver:

“The Good Silver in Columbia Heights is excited to announce that our happy hour specials are about to get even BETTER! Sometimes you want an after work beer or a simple, delicious cocktail to wash down the day and welcome the looming apocalypse. We just want to put the sh*thole year that was 2017 behind us and start the new year off right with food and drink specials that will truly Make 11th Street Great Again. But, enough reminiscing about the dumpster fire of yesteryear. If you haven’t checked us out, have been but haven’t in awhile, came last night but don’t remember, or are bar-curious, everything below is available from 5-7 PM Sunday through Friday:

$2 Miller High Life cans
$6 Classic Cocktails – think Manhattans, Old-Fashioneds and ice-cold Martinis
$5 local beers from Hellbender, Atlas, and Dogfish Head
$5 glass or $20 pitcher of Nana’s Vengeance , our signature draft cocktail (bourbon with house-made lime cordial and tonic)

In addition to the drink specials, we’ll be serving up $4 snacks to keep your belly lined for more delicious booze as well! Grab some crispy tater tots, chips ‘n’ dip, or our housemade chicken nuggets with DCAF mumbo sauce for dipping. (more…)

And by “very soon” they mean tomorrow!!

Check out the opening menu: The Good Silver Grand Opening Menu (PDF)

From a press release:

“The team behind Ivy and Coney (Josh Saltzman, Chris Powers, and Adam Fry) and new partner, Carrie Dzwil, are excited to announce The Good Silver, at 3410 11th St. NW in Columbia Heights, will open Tuesday, May 9th at 5pm.

Remember when you were a kid, and mom would break out the “good” plates? It pays homage to a time when the everyday was elevated, simply by caring a little bit more. Don’t expect the finest forks or vintage China, but instead, a focus on quality food and drink in a casual atmosphere.

On the drinks side, Dzwil has incorporated some of her favorite seasonal flavors into a variety of shrub-based cocktails which bring out the best of local produce for some refreshing, tart and not too sweet offerings. A spring highlight is her Lemongrass Ice Pick, which combines lemongrass-infused Civic Vodka from local distillery Republic Restoratives, honey-ginger syrup, iced tea and fresh sage. It has kept everyone sane and hydrated after (or during) long, hot days of construction. The drink menu also includes a sparkling shrub punch for four, and a concise but excellent liquor and craft beer list that includes local distilleries and breweries. (more…)

KBC’s replacement, from the owners of Ivy & Coney, The Good Silver is nearly here!! Have a sneak peek inside and get ready to go “very soon”:

“While we still believe hotdogs are a primary food group, The Good Silver will focus on simple seasonal ingredients, pickled veggies, cured meats and a certain banquet beer combo. Think local heirloom tomatoes in August, or strawberries in June, but when Winter arrives a BLT featuring tomato jam or rum punch spiked with a best-of-the-season strawberry shrub will be on the menu. We will also be adding some cutting-edge technology such as credit card machines, bar spoons, and level floors. What a time to be alive!

The Good Silver is all about getting the best out of life without having to pay an arm and a leg for it. Remember when you were a kid, and mom would break out the “good” plates, or grandma would take the plastic off the sofa and let you sit on the “good” part? It pays homage to a time when the everyday was elevated, simply by caring a little bit more. Don’t expect the finest forks or vintage China, but instead, a focus on customer service and quality ingredients for both drink and food. No need to dress up here; we welcome anyone who’d like to have a Manhattan in their footie-jammies.

The Good Silver was designed by The Knights Who Say Ni architecture firm and features a large reclaimed oak bar, wallpaper, and two shrubberies (one slightly higher than the other, with a little path between, and not too expensive). The space will feature 18 bar seats, a few tables, and a 16 person patio.”

Couple more shots after the jump. (more…)

3410 11th Street, NW between Park and Monroe

Changes continue for 11th Street in Columbia Heights. Earlier this week we learned that Maple would be closing at the end of the month and be replaced by an Italian restaurant. Of course when we first heard that KBC and then Good Silver had closed, folks were, rightly, super bummed. Time to get excited again!! Check out a sample menu below for the Queens English opening here mid-April:

11th Street, NW between Park and Monroe next to the former KBC/Good Silver space

I’ll be interested to see the properties you come up with. The ones that jumped to my mind, besides the one in the photo above, were the former 4Ps in Cleveland Park and the former Romeo and Juliet (White Tiger) on Capitol Hill. So what are some other prime spaces that are currently vacant? Do you think they’re vacant because the price per square foot has just gotten too expensive or something else, like it’s tied up in the courts or something. I think I’ll add the Argonaut space on H Street, NE too. OK, what other properties are vacant that really shouldn’t be?

by Prince Of Petworth December 6, 2018 at 10:22 pm 0

It feels like we’ve been posting so many closures lately. I can’t tell if it’s more than usual since at blog school I was told there would be no math. So math I will not do. However, here’s a few that have closed, or will be closing soon, this year:

Taylor Gourmet, Yang’s Market, Beef n Bread, Ruta del Vino, Hank’s Cocktail Bar, Good Silver, Justin’s Cafe, CF Folks, Stanton and Greene, Graffiato, Pizza Autentica on L Street, Town Danceboutique, The Rhode Island Ave Popeyes, Tulips, a few Buredos, Toscana Cafe, Scion, Ming’s, Simit + Smith, White Apron, 100 Montaditos, Burger, Tap & Shake, Quarter + Glory, Rosario Italian, Brass Monkey, Spaghetti Garden, Roxanne Restaurant, Peyote Karaoke Cafe, Pasha’s Kitchen, Maxime, Old Glory BBQ, some Five Guys, some Pete’s a Pizza, Lincoln Park Kitchen and Wine Bar, Ping Pong Dim Sum, Loaf Coffee, French Quarter Brasserie, Bold Bite, Stonefish Grill, Tadich Grill, Jenkins BBQ, Capriotti’s, Soapstone Market, Acadiana, J. Paul’s Georgetown, Ventnor Sports Cafe, Honeygrow, (more…)
