Thanks to a reader for sending:

Green Almond Pantry (in the old Seasonal Pantry spot on 9th St) looks closer to opening! They have merchandise and a cute sign displayed in the window. We were over at Sushi Capitol on Saturday and the folks there said that Green Almond is in the process of doing menu-testing and expects to open “soon.”

STAY TUNED for an exact opening date.

UPDATE From Ester De Aguiar:

“We are Not CLOSING! In fact, we are celebrating our 26 years anniversary this month with lots of live music, great food & drinks! We have two lots of restaurant space in that building and we have decided to lease/sell one. But we will remain at 1858 Columbia Rd with cozy and intimate restaurant. (Partner at TGFI)”

The hits keep on coming, possibly, to the 1800 block of Columbia. First Metro K and now next door neighbor The Grill from Ipanema could be next. Thanks to a reader for sending this Steal of the Year:

Ed. Note: I un-ironically love this.

From an email:

“Chefs Scott Drewno & Danny Lee, and their restaurant CHIKO are partnering with Slim Jim and special guest Chefs Gerald Addison and Chris Morgan, to deliver a one-of-a-kind pop up experience October 26.

Scott & Danny alongside Maydan will be featuring a Chinese-Korean x Slim Jim inspired menu for the DC area CHIKO, in a wildly popular event series called “CHIKO After Dark.”

Scott’s love for Slim Jim was covered in an article written by Bloomberg last June. The Slim Jim team saw this as an opportunity to work with one of the country’s best culinary teams (and palates) to encourage foodies everywhere to think about Slim Jim less as a “guilty pleasure” and more as pleasurable, fun food…PERIOD.

“We can’t wait to see the Slim Jim-inspired dishes that Scott and Danny create. (more…)

Fire struck Fish in the Hood back in April 2017. We’ve been watching eagerly ever since.

NBC Washington now reports:

“He’s making great progress toward a soft opening in just a few weeks with help from the community and a GoFundMe page that raised $8,000, but he needs about the same amount to finish the work and restock the fish case.”

Ed. Note: Now less than $3000 away!!

I peeked in over the weekend and indeed it looks so close: (more…)

From a press release:

“Reverie is a New American restaurant now open in Washington, D.C.’s historic Georgetown neighborhood. Executive Chef Johnny Spero will feature an elevated yet accessible menu with global influences, allowing ingredients to shine in minimalist preparations. The 64-seat dining room is outfitted with clean, contemporary décor and features an a la carte menu. Reverie aims to remove the pretense and formality from traditional fine dining and make the entire dining experience more approachable and enjoyable. One of the more unique ways they plan to do this is by offering two “pay-what-you-can” seats that will be available once each night through the restaurant’s reservation page on Tock.

While their balls have not yet dropped, there is light at the end of this tunnel. I’m told they are “shooting to open Tuesday or Wednesday” of next week.

Again, this is very very good news.

This is the former Cork space.

Check out The Meatball Shop’s NYC menus here.

Sign looks cool lit up – fingers crossed for next week:
