From a press release:
“Located in the heart of Georgetown, 1310 Kitchen & Bar – from first-time restaurateur of only 1.5 years, Chef Jenn Crovato – is known for its use of the purest ingredients and sustainable sensibilities. With a health-focused culinary approach, it’s only fitting that the safety protocols within the restaurant promote those same values. Beginning Wednesday, August 18, 2021, Crovato will require that all guests show proof of vaccination before entering the restaurant [physical COVID-19 vaccine card or an electronic photo of the card] – unless 11 years and younger. Last week we became very worried about the status of Local 16. Sadly, it was a very bad sign indeed. The owner Aman Ayoubi tells me via email:
“With heavy heart I should inform you that we surrendered the Local 16 space to the landlord after 22 years! (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Can anyone recommend a relatively inexpensive option for a rehearsal dinner? Even if it is just standing appetizers and beer and wine for about 60 people. The cheapest estimate I’ve seen is $6,000 but I really don’t want to pay that much. Anyone do anything creative?”

From an email:
“The beautifully redesigned Bombay Club reopens today for lunch and dinner service.
The restaurant will reopen on Monday, August 2 with new dishes while keeping the signature classics at this landmark restaurant, situated steps from the White House at 815 Connecticut Ave, NW. The Bombay Club opened in 1988, as Washington’s first sophisticated Indian restaurant. It has consistently received high praises from dining critics, noting the exceptional experience the restaurant afforded diners. U.S. presidents and celebrities alike have returned repeatedly for the classic Indian fare, enjoyed in a plush setting that was designed for gracious entertaining.”

Thanks to Allison for sending a shot of the roof at Local 16: “They just started tearing it up yesterday”
Local 16’s website still says: “We are temporarily closed for winter “hibernation” and planning to reopen soon. We will post updates here once we decide on opening date.”
Last we heard Local 16 was hoping to reopen in June. I’ve emailed the owner and will update when I hear back.

Thanks to Angelo for sending:
“I’m the partner / operator at the newly opened Capa Tosta located at 2737 Sherman Ave NW. My family and I immigrated to the DC area from Napoli, Italy 30 years ago. We’ve been working at restaurants in the area ever since. We’re so excited to finally strike out on our own. My parents, both lifetime chefs and bakers, have come out of retirement to bring family recipes to this neighborhood restaurant. We’ve coupled authentic dishes with innovative cocktails.”
Check out some incredible photos of the space, food and drinks: (more…)
