Seafood & Crab is located at 1936 14th Street, NW. As I’ve mentioned in the past this spot has one of the longest running “grand opening” signs in town. I’ve also noted that I thought crab was a type of seafood. Anyway, it’s time to dispense with such frivolous thoughts and ask the important question – how’s the food?

Piccante Pizza is now open at 2120 18th Street, NW in Adams Morgan. I walked by in the late morning as the place was opening up so I didn’t get to try the pizza but the space, while small, looks pretty cool. Anyone happen to try the pizza yet?

Couple more photos after the jump. (more…)

600 block of Columbia Road, NW

Ever since I asked folks about what ethnic restaurant their neighborhood was missing, I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled for delis (since they were mentioned a few times). I noticed Jack’s Delicatessen located on the 600 block of Columbia Road, NW not far from Georgia Ave. I’m wondering if any of the long term residents remember this spot? Do you think a deli located on a residential block like this could do good business?

When a reader inquired about Thai X-ing last week folks were mentioning other good Thai places that they liked. I noticed Paragon Thai was located at 3507 Connecticut Ave, NW in the strip with the new Weygandt Wines. I know this spot used to be a restaurant previously but I forget the name. Anyone know if Paragon Thai is a new spot? Is it any good?

This is the former 14U coffee shop located at 1939 14th St., NW. I was lucky enough to run into one of the owners this weekend who said that they were going to open this Friday for sure. It’s possible they may have a soft opening on Wed. or Thurs. but they promised me they’d be open by Friday. They were also nice enough to let me take some sneak peek photos of the inside. Get ready for a taste test on Friday.

In a previous thread one of the commenters mentioned that there isn’t a great diversity of ethnic restaurants in our neighborhoods. I think downtown and in some neighborhoods there is a pretty good variety but it got me thinking – what type of ethnic restaurant do you think your neighborhood is missing? Personally I’m a huge fan of Italian and Greek restaurants and would love to see some a bit closer to home. I’m excited for some more Pho options. But in a perfect world – what type of ethnic restaurant would you like to see closer to home?

When I wrote about the IHOP coming to DC USA earlier in the week I mentioned that I had more good news coming. And the good news is some more info about the new spot coming to Petworth from the folks behind Tynan Coffee & Tea opening Friday in Columbia Heights. This spot is coming to Petworth in the retail space of Park Place above the metro. The place in Petworth is not just going to be a coffee spot. I mentioned earlier that it’s going to be in the northernmost retail space near the corner of Georgia and Quincy. There will be some outdoor seating and what has me most excited – breakfast/brunch options.

I mean proper breakfast/brunch options. This has been one of the things I’ve been craving most – a real place to sit down and eat breakfast/brunch in Petworth. Domku does a fine job on Upshur Street but that’s really one of the few options for a hot breakfast.

This spot will tentatively be called Union City and as best I understand will sorta be like a Tryst/Diner type of place. Excuse me a moment while I wipe the tears from my eyes. Ok, sorry bout that. This is phenomenal news that I’ll be following closely. Stay tuned…

I hadn’t checked in on the new Pho place, Nam Viet, coming to 3515 14th Street, NW so I thought we were do for an update. They were finishing up work for the evening when I walked by Wed. evening. While they were originally looking for an October opening they now believe it is going to be closer to the mid or end of November. But a lot of progress has been made on the inside. It looks like it’s going to be a rather small space but could be a great spot for pickup/delivery. Stay tuned for more in November.

Always something exciting going on over on the H Street, NE corridor. I noticed this sign on the 1200 block when I hit one of their other great new great spots, Little Miss Whiskey’s Golden Dollar (1104 H St, NE).

I’m super intrigued about SOUK. I’m not sure if it’s going to be a market or restaurant or both but I love Mediterranean Cuisine so stay tuned for an update on this spot when they open.
