Thanks to an alert reader for sending the word (and pic above) about Woodley Park’s newest restaurant. Hot N Juicy Crawfish currently has a Las Vegas location and was featured on Man V. Food.

This looks like it could be the greatest addition to Woodley Park since the Marilyn Monroe mural went up.

You can see their menu here.

They will be located in the old Trattoria Italiana space located at 2651 Connecticut Ave, NW. Which is right next door to Cafe Paradiso undergoing a major renovation of its own (see below).

I’ve been looking forward to hear what folks think of Carmine’s since they opened back in August. The early buzz seems to be positive reviews so far. We took a look at the inside of the restaurant at 425 7th Street NW back on Aug. 3rd. This is the place with the huge portions. You can see their menus here. Any fans?

According to their Web site, ordering at Merzi located at 415 7th St, NW, is super easy:

When you walk into Merzi, you will be surrounded by delicious aromas–try to focus on the meal you are about to order for yourself! Walk to the counter and get ready to order.

1. 1. Pick one of the following for the base for your meal: naan, rice, salad or chaat.
2. 2. Pick one of the following: Black-eyed peas, garbanzo beans, or onion-pepper mix.
3. 3. Choose your meat (or not!).
4. 4. Pick whichever fresh vegetables you like.
5. 5. Choose one of our warm sauces or cool chutneys to throw on top of it all.
6. 6. Choose a drink and ask for a samosa or potato tikka at the register.
7. 7. Grab a fork (or just grab your naan roll) and enjoy!

You can see their menu here.

And if you work nearby and are not afraid of rain and/or lines you can try them for free from 11am – 12pm according to their twitter feed.

Back in mid Oct. we learned that Ardeo and Bardeo would be renovated and combined into one new space at 3311 Connecticut Ave, NW in Cleveland Park. Well this has to be one of the quickest intense renovations I’ve ever seen. It was completed in three weeks and looks incredible. They reopened a week ago but I checked them out over the weekend. With the wall dividing the former spaces torn down the space has a completely new feel. There is an enormous bar in the middle and a new decor. As always I’ll let the photos do the talking.

Lots more photos of the interior plus the menu after the jump. (more…)

We’ve spoken a few times about Oohs and Aahhs located at 1005 U St, NW and there was nearly universal praise. So I was surprised to receive the following email:

“Went to Ooh’s and Aah’s on U ST today for the first time for lunch. Ordered their special. Fried chicken breast, two sides. When I went to pay… 17.95, thinking that was for two of us, I paid, but it was for one meal. I was appalled. I’m sure it’s good chicken but isn’t that ridiculous?”

You can see their regular lunch menu here.

Those prices seem normal. Has the special always cost so much? I wonder if there was an increase after they were seen on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives with Guy Fieri?

What do you guys think – is Oohhs and Aahhs still one of the best spots in town?

A new restaurant called Lincoln is moving to the old Il Mulino space located at 1110 Vermont Ave. NW.

The Post’s Tom Seistema has some details:

“The owner of Hudson in the West End is expanding his reach to downtown, assuming the space vacated by Il Mulino at 1110 Vermont Ave. NW and turning it into an “upscale-casual” Lincoln, a 210-seat nod to the 16th U.S. president.

Lincoln is scheduled to open February 12 — the president’s birthday.”

Funxion is located at 1309 F Street, NW. We judged them back in July. Their liquor license application says:

“CURRENT HOURS OF OPERATION
Sunday through Thursday 10 am – 2 am and Friday & Saturday 10 am – 3 am

PROPOSED HOURS OF OPERATION
Sunday through Saturday 24 Hours”

Do you think folks will be craving a bison burger or a ‘heart blend’ (freshly juiced beets, carrots, apples and pears are blended with a touch of avocado, protein powder, lemon and cleansing ginger) at 4am…?

On a side note, even though it’s getting cold, they have the sweetest outdoor tables and seats.

I’ve often wondered how Capitol Video Sales was able to stay in business, located at 514 8th Street, SE next to Belga Cafe. Looks like the video store will be closing soon and in its place hopes to come Pacifico. From a liquor license application that recently went up:

“New Restaurant, Latin tapas, open grill, salads and contemporary cooking with recorded music.
Seating Capacity is 120. Total occupancy load including Summer Garden is 185. Sidewalk Café with seating for 30.”

I say “they hope to open up in their space” because Nichole recently reminded me of a post about an ANC 6B (which covers Barracks Row) liquor license moratorium on The Hill is Home:

“The commission decided that a blanket protest of all new [liquor license] requests — instead of determining on a case-by-case basis — would be the best course of action until a solution is identified to fix the “over-saturation of restaurants” on 8th Street.”

Though the THIH also notes:

“A protest from the ANC does not necessarily mean that the business cannot get their liquor license, it just means that the ANC is advising the ABC board to deny it.”

The dreaded “Adams Morganization” of the area was also evoked…

Personally, I think a Latin Tapas restaurant would be a fantastic addition to Barracks Row. And remember it’s not impossible to get a liquor license when ANC opposition exists.

A good example of this is the recent liquor license that Big Bear Cafe obtained in Bloomingdale, despite an ANC objection.

Do you think too many restaurants are starting to open up on 8th St, SE? It’ll be interesting to see how the desire for more mixed retail options plays out on Barracks Row. And whether or not ANC opposition scuttles any new restaurants hoping to open up there.

And a related question: When will the final bell toll for nearby Blockbuster? Tick tock…
