772 5th Street, NW

Back in September we learned that Absolute Noodle would be coming to the former Quiznos space at 772 5th Street, NW. I spoke with some of the workers on Saturday and it looks like they’ll be opening up in 2-3 more weeks. They’ve also applied for a liquor license that says:

“Full Thai Noodle Menu. Total Occupancy Load is 49.”

Have a look at the menu after the jump. (more…)

1141 Connecticut Ave, NW

A couple weeks ago we noted the building to be home to Mari Vanna Russian restaurant was looking good. Lots more info and a brief peek inside from a press release:

According to Slavic legend, Mari Vanna was a fairytale grandmother known to welcome hungry travelers into her house. She would feed her guests a home-cooked meal before sending them back out on their voyage. In mid January, Russian hospitality powerhouse Ginza Project will bring this legend to life with the opening of Mari Vanna’s second US location in the heart of downtown D.C. With an established reputation of excellence in authentic Russian cuisine in New York, London, Moscow and beyond, the capital’s 6,500 square-foot eatery will be Mari Vanna’s largest location in the world. Located at 1141 Connecticut Ave., NW, the hotspot finds its home in one of the district’s most upscale locales. Just five blocks from the White House and steps away from the historic Mayflower Hotel, the new restaurant nestles perfectly between K Street’s bustling business district and D.C.’s trendy Dupont Circle neighborhood.

The three-level restaurant will offer home-style Russian cuisine in a tea party-meets-grandma’s house ambiance. Unlike any other location, the venue will feature an open-air kitchen, bedecked in red and white tiles and old Russian tchotchkes. Additionally, what sets Mari Vanna DC apart from its four world-wide sister locations is its cozy, third level, private cocktail lounge.

3911 Georgia Ave, NW

Back in mid-Oct. we learned that the owners of the Blaguard were opening up a new restuarnt at 3911 Georgia Ave, NW next to Qualia coffee. At that time we learned the plans were for a new bistro and beer garden in the back patio. Super psyched to see things are already moving forward. The liquor license application says:

“A restaurant serving Mediterranean and American cuisine. Live bands and ensembles. Total number of seats is 250. Summer Garden seating for 50. Sidewalk Café seating for 10.”

Sweet!

Not to be outpaced by Logan Circle, comes more big U Street news.

“Dear PoPville,

I heard about H & Pizza expanding to U Street (in the Quiznos location at 13th & U). I’ve never been to H & Pizza, but the Yelp reviews seem very good. Think this concept will do well on U Street?”

Last week CityPaper’s Jessica Sidman shared the big news:

“that the restaurant has signed a lease for a 1,200 square foot space at 1250 U St. NW, which currently is home to a Quiznos. He hopes to open in the spring.”

We haven’t done a proper judging of H &Pizza located at 1118 H St, NE but from what I hear if the quality is a good as people say they will do phenomenally well on U Street.

Any fans of H &Pizza? Think they’ll do well at this location on U Street?
