A reader tweets @PoPville asking what’s going on with one of the vacant buildings at the southeast corner of Sherman and Girard St, NW. I stopped by yesterday and saw a permit posted saying future use will be a restaurant. Stay tuned for updates as construction progresses.

Hopefully this will encourage development of the long blighted property across the street on the northeast corner of Sherman and Girard:

The Pig opened up back in May 2012 in the former original Rollin Cycles space. Their website says:

We serve handcrafted food & drink, pork centric and respect the whole animal. We are local and seasonal and feature vegetables from our farm in La Plata MD. Our plates are designed for sharing and are inspired by rustic dishes from around the world. We create unique cocktails and offer American craft beers and eco-friendly wines. We strive to challenge and comfort you.

You can see their menus here.

Any fans?

“Dear PoPville,

I was wondering if you have any info about the restaurant going in at the corner of Georgia and Lamont?”

The restaurant moving into the former Brown’s Caribbean Bakery at 3301 Georgia Ave, NW is from the owner of the El Floridano food truck. Back in July we learned from their Kickstarter campaign:

Mothership will be a restaurant and bakery in what was formerly a carry-out space on Georgia Avenue. With community tables, weekend brunch and family-friendly BBQs, we hope Mothership will be a community cornerstone and meeting place. Chef/Owner Stephan Boillon will offer delicious baked goods & pastries, gourmet pizzas, small plates and seasonal tasting menus, designed to showcase great ingredients.

By preparing farm-to-table, seasonal ingredients, sustainable seafood, and pastured meats, we will provide good wholesome food to upper Georgia Avenue in an inviting neighborhood space. Our goal is to give our patrons tasty and unique food options, whether they are eating a vegan, vegetarian, pescaterian or omnivorous diet.

Some potential super sweet scuttlebutt for ya to round out the year. Another really good source tells me that Honey Pig Korean BBQ is looking to take over around 4000 square feet near 4th and H St, NE. Their website says:

My husband and I began Honey Pig in 2008 with our son in mind. We wanted to create a restaurant that would offer affordable, quality food for people from all different walks of life. Today, we are happy to say that Honey Pig is known for just that–a fun, vibrant mixing bowl of all ages and cultures, coming together to enjoy the finest Korean BBQ at the lowest prices in town!

You can see their menu here.

They currently have three locations in Ellicott City, MD; Centreville, VA; and Annandale, VA.

Still just rumor at this point for H Street but could be pretty cool.

Anyone every try one of those spots?

I’m hearing from a very good source that Chopt, Chipotle, Boloco, and Potbellys are all trying to get one of the new retail spaces for the new building on H Street, NE between 3rd and 4th (where the new Giant grocery store is also coming.) Out of the four above which would you most like to see?
