Little Viet Garden always seems to be crowded whenever I walk by it. I don’t think it’s ever come up in any of our Pho conversations – any try them out?

876 Cafe opened up in the former Indian Ocean restaurant in Van Ness back in April 2012. Their website says:
Enjoy the complex yet simplistic fusion of Caribbean cuisine with Washington’s premier restaurant 876 Cafe. Located one block from the Van Ness metro station neighboring the Cleveland Park area, 876 Cafe invites you to experience familiar dishes piqued with zesty accents of the islands.
Inside, the warm and open decor showcases talent of local artists and helps the customer to transcend to a vibe where everything is “irie and cool”. Sample favorites like our fresh multi-green salad infused with sweet coconut-gingered flakes, ackee and saltfish wraps or our refreshing coconut water contained in the original husk.
And as with everything you can expect exceptional service in a casual environment.
Go ahead. Grab a group of your friends or co-workers and relax on the veranda, bar or swanky WiFi lounge area for lunch, dinner, weekend brunch or happy hour. 876 Cafe promises to stimulate your pallet and captivate your senses.
You can see their menus here. Any fans?

8th and F Street, NW
The Post’s Tom Sietsema tweets the name for the new restaurant taking over the former Zola space at the corner of 8th and F St, NW:
Ashok Bajaj finally has a name for his American brasserie @ 800 F St. NW: Nopa Kitchen + Bar, a reference to “north of Pennsylvania Ave.”
SoMo supporters will be pleased…

1250 Connecticut Avenue, NW
The Post’s Jonathan O’Connell tweets the news:
“STK Steakhouse, “a modern steakhouse geared toward females” coming to 1250 Connecticut Ave. Hmmm.”
STK’s website says:
STK artfully blends two concepts into one—the modern steakhouse and a chic lounge. The restaurant’s signature DNA includes plaster cast horns, curvilinear black platform seats and a palette of black gloss and cream. A large central lounge area is furnished with creamy leather banquettes and textured crocodile tiles, and is surrounded by an elevated dining room for more formal dining. Theatrical lights illuminate each table, while smoky mirrors allow patrons to catch a glimpse of the surroundings while a DJ creates an energetic vibe throughout the entire space.
As anticipated, steak is the main attraction. With a female-friendly mindset, STK offers small, medium and large cuts of meat, as well as naturally raised options and market fresh fish entrees. Aside from steak, signature items include Parmesan Truffle Fries; Lil’ BRGs; Shrimp Rice Krispies; Sweet Corn Pudding; and Jump Lump Crab Salad.

Casa Nonna closed back in May 2012.

We last checked on Tacos Impala over the summer. Finally have a brief update via their twitter feed:
“Opening in the Spring! Look out for more info!”
Details as they release them.

2524 L Street, NW
A new Indian restaurant, Flavors Of India, has opened in the former Marshall’s Bar & Grille space at 2524 L Street, NW. You can see their menu here. You can also see their pretty large delivery areas here.
Anyone try them out yet? Anyone miss Marshall’s Bar & Grille?

1348 H Street, NE
In October we first learned Red Rocks Pizza would be opening another restaurant at 1348 H St, NE. Renovations have been progressing nicely and they’ve recently applied for a liquor license:
“New Full Service Restaurant and Bar serving Neapolitan Pizza and a DJ on the 2nd Floor.
Seating Capacity is 281, total occupancy load is 370. Summer Garden with 76 seats.”
Should be a great addition for springtime, when they hope to open.

524 8th Street, SE
A couple weeks ago we took a sneak peek at Tash House of Kabob located at 524 8th Street, SE. I just got a call this morning saying they will be soft opening today at 5:30pm and will have a grand opening on Thursday.
The Nooshi Sushi space opening upstairs will open in another month or two.

Tops frozen yogurt opened up next to the Pret a Manager in Union Station back in Nov. 2011. I hear that the owners recently opened up a Burger King in the food court on the lower level and are considering making this small space something like a Burger King express.

1330 U Street, NW
A new tavern called Fainting Goat is coming to the former Urban Essentials space at 1330 U St, NW. In Sept. Urban Essentials moved to 1401 14th Street, NW in the former Reincarnations Furnishings space. A liquor license application has been posted in the old space saying Fainting Goat will be a:
“New tavern serving appetizers, burgers, sandwiches, salads, and main courses. Featuring DJ and background music. Occupancy load is 199.”
So – Fainting Goat – greatest bar name in DC?
