“Dear PoPville,

I’m getting ready to start a home renovation project and am trying to use DCRA’s new(ish) permit wizard. It hasn’t been working since Saturday. After waiting on hold for an hour today (Wednesday), I was told that they’re aware of the problem but had no idea of when it would be fixed and ready to use. I’d bet that I’m not the only frustrated local planning renovations has been frustrated by this glitch.”

“Dear PoPville,

I live in Petworth with my family in a single family home my wife and I purchased in 2019. This year my property tax was assessed at the Class 3 rate, though my home is very clearly not vacant and this wasn’t an issue last year. Our bill is quite high as a result. OTR says DCRA vacant buildings division needs to fix this in the computer. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

At the end of June, OTR returned my tax return via email, citing that there was an error that needed to be corrected and re-processed. However, it was unclear what the error was so I contacted the name of the customer service tax specialist provided via email and voicemail for clarification and never received a response. (more…)

A reader reports at 11:53pm Sunday night:

“we saw the aftermath of a bad crash involving four cars on the southeast corner of North Capitol St and Bryant NE. One individual appeared to have substantial injuries and was taken to an ambulance in a stretcher. Notably, she was driving a car with diplomatic plates. Secret Service arrived after MPD. She did not cause the crash. I spoke with a Lyft driver who arrived on the scene shortly after the crash and tried to help the driver of the car that did cause the crash. (more…)
