Kristin sends this heartbreaking note: “The parents of the Capitol Hill daycare where Arianna’s mom works have set up a GoFundMe to help with funeral and ongoing expenses after her death on Sunday. Can you share?”

The GoFundMe says:

“We are some of the families at Board of Child Care – Early Childhood Education Center (“BCC”) in Capitol Hill who were devastated to learn that our beloved teacher and the mother of four, Ms. Antionette, and her family were the victims of senseless gun violence on Mother’s Day 2023.

Ms. Antionette and her family were driving home on Sunday night when they heard the sound of gunshots. Ms. Antionette would soon realize that her 10-year-old daughter, Arianna Davis, was struck by the gunfire. Arianna was hospitalized that evening.

On a day that should have been joyful and filled with loving memories, Ms. Antionette and her family were forced to endure this nightmare. And now, it is with a heavy heart that we must share that on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, Arianna succumbed to her injuries. She leaves behind a brokenhearted family and community that will miss her dearly. (more…)

The new Safer, Stronger DC legislation comes the week after Mayor Bowser held a public safety summit where she brought together local and federal public safety officials and partners to discuss what is working, what is not working, and what needs to change to improve public safety in DC. The package of legislation will address identified gaps in the District’s public safety and justice ecosystem.

“We have heard from our public safety partners and from members of the community about the gaps that exist in our public safety ecosystem – this package of legislation will address those gaps,” said Mayor Bowser. “This is about making sure we have the tools we need to build a safer, stronger DC and protect the overwhelming majority of people in our city who are doing the right thing and who just want to be able to enjoy our beautiful city and our fantastic neighborhoods.”

The commonsense legislation Mayor Bowser is sending the DC Council will: (more…)
