From Metro Transit Police:

“Metro Transit Police arrest juvenile suspect for November Green Line assault and robbery

Metro Transit Police today arrested a 15-year-old female for a violent assault and robbery that occurred aboard a Green Line train during the early morning hours of November 22, 2015.

The juvenile respondent was arrested without incident this morning by the MTPD Warrant Squad at her residence in Northeast DC on a Juvenile Custody Order that was issued yesterday.

The juvenile is charged with felony assault and robbery for her actions aboard the train that night. It is alleged that the respondent was with a group of other juveniles aboard the train at approximately 1:16 a.m. As the train traveled between Fort Totten and Shaw-Howard stations, the group surrounded and began to harass a 14-year-old male passenger. Police allege that the juvenile respondent is the person responsible for first mocking, then violently kicking and punching an adult male victim who attempted to intervene on behalf of the 14 year old.

Following the assault, the adult victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

MTPD detectives identified the juvenile respondent using Metro’s digital surveillance systems, as well as victim and witness interviews.”

“Dear PoPville,

Last Tuesday (1/5), I was walking home from work shortly before 6pm. I was heading North on 9th St. NW. Just below the corner of Allison St., I saw a group of 5 or 6 boys who looked to be between 12 and 15 years old heading in my direction. I didn’t give it much thought, but as we passed by each other, without any warning, one of them punched me on the side of the head and knocked me to the ground.

Fortunately, they kept moving, and by the time I was back on my feet, they were already well down the block. They made no attempt to rob me or inflict any more blows on me, but obviously it was pretty unpleasant. I had previously heard reports of kids playing the so-called “Knock-Out Game” but hadn’t give the idea much credence. It appears, however, that this is a real thing and that it’s happening right here in Petworth, so I urge everyone to be extra careful when out on the streets after dark.”

Ed. Note: In the past talk of the “Knock-Out Game” has veered the discussion off course, I think that the important element of this note is that there was another unprovoked attack by teens where nothing was stolen.

From MPD:

“We are currently investigating a Robbery Force and Violence that just occurred in the 100 block of 6th Street, SE [January 8th]. An adult male reported to the First Police District that he had just had his prescription filled at Grubb’s Pharmacy 326 E Capitol Street NE and left in his wheelchair when he was approached by 2 B/M subjects, one of which snatched his prescription from the back of his wheelchair where the pharmacy bag was hanging. Both suspects fled on foot from the scene. Lookout for the following suspects: S-1 B/M, black and red jacket and black pants. S-2 B/M, wearing all black. (more…)

Thanks to a reader for passing on this maddening report from Fox 5:

“I think there were about ten kids who were just all attacking us,” said the girlfriend.

It was 9:30 p.m. Saturday night on January 2. The couple was waiting for a train at the Metro Center stop after spending a night at the movies. They were sitting on a bench when he was sucker-punched from behind and suffered a loss of vision.

Nothing was stolen by this group of teens.”

Excellent job by all!!”
