Thanks to all who wrote in last night:

“Dear PoPville,

Just wanted to pass along a pretty incredible story from tonight — at about 10:20 tonight we heard screams coming from the street (Randolph Pl) and within seconds a hoard of neighbors realized what was happening and came out of their houses to chase down and detain the thief until the police arrived. I can’t speak to whether it was at gunpoint or if there was also an assault, but the screams were absolutely glass shattering. Moral of this story: never underestimate your neighbors, and scream as loud as you can if ever in this situation.

Props to all of the neighbors who ran out in defense of someone they didn’t know! Makes me feel great about my neighborhood!”

From MPD:

“On May 12, 2016, at approximately 10:30PM, a Robbery occurred at 1st and Randolph Pl., NW Several citizens observed the victim being robbed. The citizens quickly took action and apprehended the suspect. As the citizens continued to hold the suspects they called 911. Units from the Fifth District responded and arrested the suspect.

This is an outstanding job by the citizens of the Fifth District and all should be commended for a job well done.

“Dear PoPville,

I don’t know how you decide what to post in Props to the Cops, but wanted to pass along this story about animal cruelty. It is so awful it makes my stomach churn. But props to the cops and WHS/WRL for arresting the person responsible.”

From the Washington Humane Society:

“D.C. resident, Brenda Bullock, was arrested this morning by the Metropolitan Police Department 5th District Warrant Squad and charged with three counts of cruelty to animals following an investigation by Washington Humane Society-Washington Animal Rescue League Humane Law Enforcement (HLE) officers. From MPD:

“This morning [Tuesday] at approximately 12:30 AM, members of the Fourth District’s Crime Suppression Team were on patrol when they observed a vehicle traveling in the 5700 block of Georgia Avenue, NW, with no headlights on. The officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, which was occupied by three males. When the officers approached the vehicle the two passengers fled from the vehicle on foot. The officers gave chase to the subjects and caught one in the 5700 block of Georgia Avenue, NW, and the other in the 800 block of Marietta Place, NW. The officers noticed that the passengers were holding their waistbands as they ran so the area where the subjects ran was canvassed by officers. One pistol was located in the 5700 block of Georgia Avenue, NW, and another was located in the 5700 block of 9th Street, NW. The two subjects were then placed under arrest for Carrying a Pistol Without a License and other related firearms offenses. The driver remained with the vehicle; however, a check was conducted and it was determined that the driver did not possess a valid driver’s permit. The driver was then placed under arrest for not having a valid driving permit.”

“Dear PoPville,

My friend has recently passed away and a car was broken into with some of his belongings at the CVS at the corner of Georgia and Princeton. A black backpack was stolen at around 730pm last night. It contained 1 Samsung phone, 1 iPad, 1 laptop (maybe a dell), 1 MacBook, 1 wallet with a Maryland state drivers license.

Given how busy that street is at that hour I’m hoping someone saw something. They can contact the fourth district sub station at 2025768222 or email me at [email protected]

From the MPD-2D Listserv:

“Greeting to the citizens of the Second District,

The person responsible for the theft of flowers in the Second District was arrested on Friday, May 6, 2016. This was an example of the community and law enforcement officers sharing information and being on the lookout for the alleged suspect.

Recap:

A few days ago, emails were sent to the community regarding a person who for years had stolen flowers from private yards and on public space. On Friday, May 6th, 2016, around the evening hours, a Georgetown Resident observed the individual in the Glover Park area and called the police dispatcher. Members of the Second District and Uniform Secret Services Division responded to the location and arrested the flower man for an outstanding warrant. Since this is an ongoing investigation there will be no other details provided at this time. (more…)

Ed. Note: “Lieutenant Wright made a typo when posting on the list serve. The incident occurred in the rear of the 200 block of V Street, NW.”

An update from a reader:

“This sounds exactly what happened at that time in Bloomingdale today. I witnessed it from inside my house on Crispus Atticus Park. It was in the alley on the park between U and V St. I heard a gun shot fired — then walked to back of house and saw 3 construction workers struggling with the suspect. I couldn’t see the gun at first but heard a couple more rounds go off during the struggle. It was extremely scary. Another construction worked joined the struggle — they wrestled the gun away from the suspect and pinned him to the ground.

I was on phone with 911 during the struggle and cops showed up with in about 2-3 minutes. I took the attached picture of EMS taking away the suspect who apparently was injured during the struggle.

These construction workers were VERY brave to take on this guy.

From MPD:

“At approximately 1130 hours Fifth District received a call for sounds of gunshot in the rear 200 block of V street NW. When the officer arrived several males were holding the suspect on the ground. It was reported that the suspect approached the victim and attempted to rob him. The suspect produced a revolver and the victim grabbed the weapon and as a result the revolver was fired three times one round struck the victim on the left check. The suspect was apprehended by a few men who were working on a vacant house. The weapon was recovered on the scene.”
