MPD’s Harbor Patrol Made a Water Rescue 6:10 pm Tuesday in Georgetown

“On Tuesday, September 17, 2019, at approximately 6:10 pm, Second District Officers were in the area of the 3300 block of Water Street, NW, Georgetown Waterfront Park, conducting an investigation when they observed an adult male jump into the water. MPD Harbor Patrol Officers responded to the scene and pulled the man out of the water. He was conscious and breathing when he was rescued. The man was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.”

“On September 13, 2019, at approximately 2025 hours, members of the Metropolitan Police Department were called to the intersections of Georgia Avenue and Arkansas Avenue, Northwest, for the sounds of gunshots. Once at the location, members of the department discovered an adult male lying on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds. The adult male was treated and transported by the District of Columbia’s Fire and Emergency Medical Services to a local area hospital, where the adult male succumbed to his injuries.

“On September 16, 2019, at approximately 01:07am, multiple sounds of gunshots were reported in the 4000 block of 4th street NW & 4th Taylor NW. Thorough canvasses were conducted by MPD members, K-9 unit, and helicopter. Shell casings were recovered in the 4000 block of 4th street, but there were no reports of any victims. Property damage was also reported.

Unprovoked Assault Outside The Passenger Saturday Night

A reader reported:

“I wanted to inform you about an assault that happened outside of the Passenger (7th Nw between p and q) at around 12:05 am tonight (Saturday night/technically Sunday morning.) My boyfriend, myself and three friends had just walked out of the bar and were walking to the corner to cross the street and a group of teenagers attacked my boyfriend, punching him in the face causing his lip to be lacerated and need stitches.”

Man Pushed Onto Metro Tracks at Navy Yard by “nearly a half dozen teens”

Thanks to Erin for passing on this upsetting report about an assault at the Navy Yard Metro Stop:

“Glad they arrested the kids but doubtful there will be any follow through. The victim broke his leg but is EXTREMELY lucky that when he landed on the third rail he hit the cover and didn’t get electrocuted. He obviously also could have been hit by a train. These kids should have been charged with attempted murder.”

Fox5 reported:

“The man, who asked not to be identified, said the attack began when a teen slapped him randomly on a train headed toward Gallery Place. He got off at the Navy Yard stop to try and identify the teen who assaulted him and that is when nearly a half dozen teens attack, shoving him into the tracks.

Metro confirmed that Metro Transit Police arrested four juveniles, who now face aggravated assault charges.”

“On Monday, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) complied with a 2016 Council law by releasing a report on stops made by its officers that details far more information on those stops than has ever been previously collected.

Although the Council legally required this data be reported in 2016, and also funded the associated costs via the annual budget in two consecutive fiscal years, MPD only collected and released the full data in response to legal action. But the important point is that the data is finally available and will be critical to informing the community discussion on policing. While this report only covers one month of data, it will be the first of many reports to help identify trends and inform policing practices.

Man Found Shot in Columbia Heights Last Night; “Helicopter circling Capitol Hill/Eastern Market last night”; Stabbing near Dupont Circle

“The third district is currently investigating a shooting. A victim has been transported to an area hospital from the 1400 block of Girard St NW with non life threatening gunshot wounds to the leg. Although the victim was found on Girard St, at this time we do not know where the incident actually took place and are continuing to investigate. No crime scene has been located yet.
