A reader reports: “Just want to warn folks about a group of young males (maybe 10-12) on JUMP Bikes accosting people South of H ST NE & West of Kingsman Park. I was driving Tuesday (3/17) down 14th ST NE when I came to the stop sign (F ST NE) where they were stopped on the corner at 3:34pm. My window was rolled down and one of the kids yelled “THE F*** YOU LOOKING AT” then punched me in the face. Filed a police report but MPD said these guys have been wreaking havoc all week. If everyone could keep an eye out & stay safe out there!”

From MPD:

“The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) takes pride in professionally responding to crisis situations, and we will continue to do so throughout the current public health emergency. This is a constantly evolving situation that requires MPD to do our part to limit exposure without interrupting the high level of service provided to our community. It is necessary that MPD maintains a healthy workforce so that we may continue providing emergency services when called upon. We have identified certain operational measures that can be temporarily modified for the community and our members.

It is important to note that MPD facilities remain open at this time, but to mitigate potential exposure to and spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), operational adjustments have been implemented and will continue to expand as required. Additionally, if calling for police services and you are experiencing flu-like or COVID-19 symptoms, including fever, cough, and shortness of breath, callers should notify the dispatcher so first responders may take appropriate safety precautions upon their arrival.

The following operational adjustments are in place at MPD: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to pass along an alarming article published by the Washington Post two days ago which outlines an FBI raid that was performed at our apartment building Capitol View on 14th a couple of weeks ago. A man who is allegedly part of the extremely infamous Triad Chinese organized crime gang apparently abducted someone and held them against their will at our apartment building until the FBI figured it out, and surrounded and raided the premises. We saw FBI agents with bullet proof vests on as we arrived at our building that day, but did not get any details as to what was going on.

If you read the article, it is really unbelievable. There were Uzi’s and really hardcore drugs found in his apartment. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Last night my wife and I heard what sounded like two cars hitting each other. Turns out it was a car swiping the side of a minivan. But when I went outside seconds later, I found a white sedan collide head-pn into the parked minivan and then drive off into the alley, followed by another car. I called the police and gave them a statement, and I suggested that it looked intentional. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

It’s international women’s day today (yesterday) and what a way to celebrate. Walking to work along Connecticut Ave near Cathedral this (Sunday) afternoon a man was masturbating in an open window of his apartment. He even knocked on the window to get the attention of passers by. Of course I found it disgusting. So did the three women who were walking ahead of me. As I live in the area I pass this apartment pretty much daily. I called the police on this creep. I’m surprised they haven’t contacted me about it so far.”
