“MPD responded for a burglary in progress in the 1700 block of Lanier Place NW, which involved a subject who was in what appeared to be a mental health crisis. He attempted to harm himself and resisted officers attempts to detain him. Officers utilized a less-lethal impact weapon in order to ultimately bring the subject into custody.
This equipment fires a projectile at a subject to temporarily incapacitate non-compliant, armed subjects.
The subject was transported to an area hospital for treatment of the self-inflicted injuries. The investigation into the burglary is continuing.”
