“The suspect confronts victims in the park and shines a flashlight in their faces. After doing so, the suspect occasionally identifies himself as a police officer and assaults the victims with pepper spray and/or the flashlight.”

“On May 9, 2021, at approximately 02:35 AM Officers responded to the 400 block of Emerson Street NW for sounds of Gunshots. Once on the scene officers located multiple shell casing. No report of any injuries or property damage. The incident is being investigated by the Fourth District Detective’s Office.

“At approximately 9:56pm, the Metropolitan Police responded to the 1200 block of Jefferson Street, Northwest, for a report of gunfire. Upon their arrival, officers discovered numerous cartridge casings and a building that sustained minor damage from the unlawful discharge.

Wondering if anyone knows more of what happened with the police stand-off in the housing complex on Park and Hiatt NW on Monday? I live on Park and wasn’t allowed to leave my building from about 3pm on. I walked past the building today and the damage is pretty apparent…”
In response to an email inquiry MPD tells me: “The incident was resolved early Tuesday morning with the suspect in custody. No injuries were reported.” (more…)

“Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser launched the Safer Stronger DC Summer Crime Prevention Initiative (SCI) – a coordinated effort to reduce violent crime in specific areas in the District through strategic prevention and coordinated enforcement. Every year for nearly eleven years, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has identified areas of the city that have experienced a high density of violence and utilized all available resources, including collaborative outreach, to prevent violent crime in those focus areas during the summer months, running from May 1-August 31.
“We bring the Summer Crime Prevention Initiative back each year because the data shows us that it drives down crime in the neighborhoods we target,” said Mayor Bowser. “The reason this initiative works is because it’s not just about policing and it’s not just about what MPD is doing – it’s about engaging people, providing opportunity, and working across DC Government to bring resources and supports to residents who need them.”

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch, Special Victims Unit seek the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a vehicle of interest in reference to an Assault with Intent to Kill (Gun) offense that occurred on Saturday, May 1, 2021, in the 3500 block of Jay Street, Northeast.
At approximately 6:58 pm, Sixth District members received a call for the report of a shooting at the listed location. When units arrived, they located a juvenile female victim suffering from a gunshot wound. [Ed. Note: The Post reported she is 7 years old and was “was riding a scooter in a courtyard”.]DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

“Dear PoPville,
As I was riding my bike home tonight, I hear an accident behind me on the corner of Upshur NW and Kansas Ave NW right in front of the Petworth Library. I head over to see if the drivers were ok and call 911. In the rush to make sure the drivers were ok, I did not lock my bike up but leaned it against the railing of the library.
As I am on the phone with 911, two detectives from Third District walk up and tell me they’ve called in the accident. As they tell me this, other bystanders start yelling at me that my bike is being stolen. I turn around and it’s gone. I tell the two detectives that my bike was just stolen as I was talking to them and the response I get was “sorry that’s for 4D, we’re 3D. You’ll need to file a report with 4D” and walked away from me back to their car. (more…)

“I’m on the scene with officers and detectives at 3rd and H Streets NE where an Armed Carjacking (Knife) occurred at approximately 8 PM. The victim is unharmed but a 2007 BMW 5-Series with West Virginia tags 757185 was taken. If you see this vehicle, do not take any action other than immediately calling 911. If you witnessed this offense occur or have relevant information to share, please call 202-727-9099 or anonymously text 50-411.“
