“Metro Transit Police today arrested Brandon Lynn Williams, 19, of Forestville, Md., on an initial charge of misdemeanor sexual abuse that occurred last week at the Columbia Heights Metrorail Station.

Last Thursday afternoon, the victim, an adult female, contacted Transit Police via Metro’s online harassment reporting system. The victim reported that she was exiting Columbia Heights Station Wednesday evening using the ascending escalator at approximately 7:50 p.m. when she felt a hand up her skirt. The victim immediately left the area, while the suspect returned into the station.

Detectives immediately contacted the victim to gather additional information and offer support. MTPD also deployed casual-clothes officers at Columbia Heights and other stations in an attempt to locate the suspect and other potential victims.

Using information provided by the victim, investigators were able to find the incident on video and obtain images of the suspect. The review of video footage revealed that the suspect placed a cell phone up the victim’s skirt. (more…)

“After an extensive investigation with the United States Department of State, the United States Secret Service and the Metropolitan Police Department, a total of 18 individuals have been charged or are facing charges stemming from a physical altercation that occurred during a First Amendment assembly on May 16, 2017.

At approximately 4:05 pm, a group of protesters convened at Sheridan Circle, Northwest, to voice their opposition to Turkish President Erdogan. A heated verbal exchange led to a physical altercation between protesters and Turkish security personnel. A total of nine protesters were injured in the altercation.

On May 16, 2017, two individuals, indicated below, were arrested and charged with offenses related to this incident.

· Jalal Kheirabaoi, of Virginia, charged with misdemeanor Assault on a Police Officer

· Ayten Necmi, of New York, charged with felony Aggravated Assault

Investigators have spent the last several weeks using video technology to identify additional individuals who took part in the incident.

On Wednesday, June 14, 2017, pursuant to DC Superior Court arrest warrants, two individuals, indicated below, were arrested and charged with offenses related to this incident.

· Sinan Narin, of Virginia, charged with felony Aggravated Assault and misdemeanor Assault or Threatened Assault in a Menacing Manner

· Eyup Yildirim, of New Jersey, charged with felony Assault with Significant Bodily Injury, felony Aggravated Assault and misdemeanor Assault or Threatened Assault in a Menacing Manner

An additional fourteen individuals have outstanding warrants for their arrests and are identified below. (more…)

“Detectives of the Metropolitan Police Department announce that two arrests have been made in connection with an Assault with Intent to Kill (Car) Offense that occurred on June 8, 2017, at approximately 8:58 pm in the 2400 block of 18th Street Northwest.

At the listed time and location, the suspect’s vehicle was observed driving at a high rate of speed, striking two MPD officers assigned to bicycle patrol. The suspect continued driving, striking a DDOT Traffic Control Officer.  The suspect’s vehicle came to rest after striking an unoccupied vehicle.

The two injured officers were transported to an area hospital in critical condition. The DDOT employee was also transported to an area hospital, treated and released.

Arrested at the scene were 22-year old Brandon Lord Figures-Mormon of Disputanta, VA, who is charged with Assault With Intent to Kill and Possession of Unregistered Firearm, and 23-year old Dwayne Nicholas Taylor of Prince George, VA, who is charged with Possession of Unregistered Firearm.

“Fifth District Community, 5D had a call for service for multiple gun shots in the rear of 1400 Block North Capitol St NW this afternoon [Monday]. In light of recent shooting over the weekend, the 5th District had deployed additional units to that area. The area was quickly saturated with the 5D units along with the MPD Gun Recovery unit. 2 arrests were made and multiple weapons were recovered. No injuries were reported.

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Third District announced an arrest has been made in an Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Knife) and an Armed Robbery (Knife) that occurred in the Third District.

· Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Knife): On Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at approximately 3:30 pm, in the 1400 block of Park Road, Northwest.

o The victim was approached by two suspects. One of the suspects brandished a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times. The suspects fled the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. This case remains under investigation.

· Armed Robbery (Knife): On Monday, April 3, 2017, at approximately 4:40 pm, in the 1000 block of Irving Street, Northwest. (more…)

“On Tuesday, May 16, 2017, around 11:45 a.m., the victim was in the 4200 block of 9th Street, NW, when he was approached by two suspects one of whom assaulted him and the other brandished a handgun and took the victim’s property. Both suspects fled from the scene of the robbery. Based on the investigation conducted by the 4D detectives and the responding officers, an arrest was made of one of the suspects. This suspect was identified as a 17 year-old juvenile male of Northwest, Washington, DC. The detectives are working to identify the second suspect and are hopeful to make another arrest in this case.”

“At approximately 1:45pm this afternoon, 2 subjects approached an individual in the 1200 block of S Street NW and attempted to rob her. The suspects ran off and responding units located them in the 2000 block of 9th Street NW. Both individuals were quickly stopped without incident and positively identified as the subjects who committed the attempted robbery. At the time of the arrest, one of the individuals was in possession of a handgun, which was recovered. Both subjects are adult males and were charged with Assault with the Intent to Rob While Armed, along with other charges. The victim of the robbery attempt was not injured and no property was obtained.

This is another excellent example of the community and the police working together to get 2 violent criminals and an illegal handgun off the streets.”

“Officers with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Fourth District announced arrests made in reference to several illegal dumping offenses that occurred in the Fourth District.

On April 19, 2017, in the 1600 block of Manchester Street, NW, refuse was illegally deposited. An investigation was conducted and arrested was 36-year-old Michael Harris of Northeast, Washington, DC. He was charged with Illegal Dumping.

On April 20, 2017, in the rear of the 5900 block of Georgia Avenue, NW, refuse was illegally deposited. An investigation was conducted and arrested were 31-year-old Emmanuel Williams of Northwest, Washington, DC, and 41-year-old Sydney Powell of Northeast, Washington, DC. Both defendants were charged with Illegal Dumping.

On May 1, 2017, in the rear of the 3500 block of Georgia Avenue, NW, refuse was illegally deposited. An investigation was conducted and arrested was 41-year-old Jesus Cruz of Northwest, Washington, DC. He was charged with illegal Dumping.”

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announced an arrest has been made in a fatal stabbing that occurred in the 600 block of C Street, Northeast, on Sunday, April 16, 2017.

At approximately 1:40 pm, members of the First District responded to a report of an unconscious male inside of a residence. Upon arrival on the scene, officers located an adult male who was suffering from multiple stab wounds. DC Fire & EMS personnel were called to the scene and found no signs consistent with life. The decedent remained on the scene until he was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The decedent has been identified as 79-year-old David Norwood, of Northeast, DC.

On Monday, April 17, 2017, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 21-year-old Malcolm Amir of Northeast, DC. He was charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed.”

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announced an arrest has been made in connection with the 2009 disappearance of Pamela Butler.

On Tuesday, February 17, 2009, officers assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Fourth District responded to the 5800 block of 4th Street, Northwest, for the report of a missing person. The missing person was identified as 47-year-old Pamela Butler of Northwest, DC. After an extensive investigation, and more than seven years missing, a Petition for Presumption of the Death of a Missing Person was granted by a DC Superior Court Judge. A death certificate was issued for Ms. Butler in July 2016.

On Saturday, April 8, 2017, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 51-year-old Jose Rodriguez-Cruz of Fairfax, Virginia. He was transported to the Homicide Branch where he is being charged with First Degree Murder-Premeditated in connection with the disappearance of Pamela Butler.
