Oh my goodness a magnificent, and desperately needed, update about Saint Vincent coming to the old union drinkery/sundevich space at 3212-3216 Georgia Ave NW in the Park View. Co-owner Peyton Sherwood (along with partner Frederick Uku) tells me that they’ll be opening up a retail shop there in the next few weeks (before a proper opening is suitable.) We can expect the space to feature a wine list that highlights small producers from all over the world plus cheese and charcuterie. People will be able to pick out their favorites online a la carte or buy baskets they put together. You can follow their progress on their Instagram page here. And of course we’ll update when the retail shop is live and of course when it’s safe to do so, when the proper opening occurs.

Check out a taste from that sweet window at night too: (more…)

From a press release:

“Two of DC’s most acclaimed dining and drinking destinations — The Imperial and Jack Rose Dining Saloon – are the city’s newest take-out options starting this Friday, May 15. The Imperial, which was billed as one of DC’s hottest new restaurants in its four months of operation before COVID, has launched carry-out for the first time after an 8-week closure, and Jack Rose has introduced a brand new menu of to-go food, meal kits, ready-to-drink cocktails and at-home beverage kits. Both restaurants will offer their menus for pre-order via Tock, Wednesday through Sunday, starting on 5/15. (more…)

“Does anyone in DC know what’s going on with Firefly? I will cry super big tears if it’s gone forever.”

Ed. Note
: Last week we noted renovations coming to Number Nine in Logan Circle. Presumably we’ll see many more as guidance comes on how bars/restaurants may reopen with social distancing?

“Dear PoPville,

As the weather turns, a couple of us were asking which bars in DC are offering To-Go drinks. We went to Garden District yesterday only to find out that they are closed between 2PM and 5PM which we found very odd. As a result, we ended up at Colada Shop which has amazing To Go cocktails. Stopped by Chicken & Whiskey, but they had the Take-Home-And-Prepare cocktails that you can’t drink immediately. I also noticed that Duke’s Counter has To Go cocktails and beers.”

We talked to go cocktails back in March but where are your current favorite spots?

Thanks to Matt for sharing the Codmother‘s GoFundMe:

“Hello friends and family!

As you know, COVID-19 has been a huge blow to small businesses everywhere. From a recent survey of 1,500 small business owners in the U.S., more than 50% said that they may not be able to continue after 3 months in the current state caused by the pandemic. They were surveyed in March and it is now May, so time is starting to run out for many of us. While a limited reopening could definitely help us out, we also have to consider the health risks involved. As a staff of five working in close quarters, it is more important to us to guarantee the safety of each of us as well as our customers and that’s how we find ourselves here.

We applied for the small business recovery grant and we were only given $1,000 to stay afloat, compared to the astronomical amounts corporate america received!

We are asking for some support for the “shittiest” bar in D.C., where everyone belongs. The bartender knows your name, because we are all taking our shots together. Everyone has a moment here that makes for the best of stories later. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Any idea what’s going on at Number Nine? They seem to have gutted the place for renovations.”

Maybe we’ll be seeing a lot more of this as bars and restaurants prepare to reopen with likely more spacing in mind? Anyone see other renos starting at restaurants or bars?

From the good people at From Moreland’s (5501 14th Street, NW):

“Reminder!! WHISKEY WEDNESDAY. SUPER LIMITED 1Liter Of Old Fashioned or Ginger Manhattan for $65! These can be ordered online here starting at 4pm today. Will sell out!”

Ed. Note: If you’re wondering why I’m always posting about Moreland’s Tavern it’s because I love Moreland’s! And liquor. And John Denver.

Whoa, thanks to Dustin for sending: “Talks swirling that Lucky Strike in Gallery Place (701 7th Street, NW) has reportedly closed for good @PoPville (Their twitter account is gone too)”

Ed. Note: Last week we learned that Fado had also permanently closed in Chinatown. And back in January before the virus we learned that Bar Louie had closed after many years in Gallery Place.

Thanks to a reader for passing on from The Passenger:

“Hey guys. Thank you all so much for coming out and supporting us over these last weeks. We regret to announce that we are suspending all business, effective immediately. We hope you and yours stay safe and can’t wait to see you again when we’re able to reopen.

Melissa writes: “Sad news about The Passenger. I have REALLY loved their $3 growler fills with purchase of food. Now that they are closed, any leads on other cheap growler fills in the area?

Also awesome – from All Souls:

“we are dipping our toe into the pool. We have made some to go cocktails which will be for sale @RightProperBeer (624 T Street NW) via pickup at the Brewpub in Shaw. 2 options: Cocktails No. 2 and No. 3, our Manhattan and Negroni. 1 bottle pours 2 large All Souls sized cocktails + some.”
