“The Codmother loves you all and she needs your help.”

1334 U Street, NW

Thanks to Matt for sharing the Codmother‘s GoFundMe:

“Hello friends and family!

As you know, COVID-19 has been a huge blow to small businesses everywhere. From a recent survey of 1,500 small business owners in the U.S., more than 50% said that they may not be able to continue after 3 months in the current state caused by the pandemic. They were surveyed in March and it is now May, so time is starting to run out for many of us. While a limited reopening could definitely help us out, we also have to consider the health risks involved. As a staff of five working in close quarters, it is more important to us to guarantee the safety of each of us as well as our customers and that’s how we find ourselves here.

We applied for the small business recovery grant and we were only given $1,000 to stay afloat, compared to the astronomical amounts corporate america received!

We are asking for some support for the “shittiest” bar in D.C., where everyone belongs. The bartender knows your name, because we are all taking our shots together. Everyone has a moment here that makes for the best of stories later.

We hate asking for help from the family we’ve built over the years. We’re all figuring this out together, and it is obviously not your job. But times really are tough. We had hoped that this wouldn’t last quite so long, but now it is projected to go on even longer.

Unfortunately, we’re in a place where our sweet Mother will die without the support of her children. Our home is at risk of disappearing.

We’ve all been there for each other since the beginning, and now that we know how the future is looking we need to stick together. We’re not the types to beg online, but we’ve gotten a ton of emails from members of our little family that are interested in lending a hand and we have delivered!
Here is our chance to save the home we’ve all made here.

As our favorite reviewer on Yelp once said, “This bar loves liberty as much as the Founding Fathers combined.”

The Codmother loves you all and she needs your help.

Sincerely,
Marko, Tolga, Amir, Augusto, and Oscar”

Finding a gift for moms can be difficult. Google “Mother’s Day gifts,” and you’ll scroll through endless lists of beauty products, candles and fuzzy robes. Sure, those are sweet, but sometimes it’s fun to surprise loved ones with something a little more, well, practical!

Here’s one idea: Give her a gift certificate for a home cleaning from Well-Paid Maids. It’s the perfect “thank you,” “I love you” or “you’ve got this” for any mom. She can schedule the home cleaning at her convenience and breathe easy knowing she has one less thing to do.

Our cleaners will take care of everything, including vacuuming and mopping as well as cleaning and dusting countertops, tables, mirrors, appliances and more. Sinks, toilets, showers and appliance exteriors also get a good scrub.
