Last week we noted The Reef had been ordered closed indefinitely after a stabbing involving an employee. Late last week they had an ABRA hearing and a reader tells me that they hope to reopen later this week. WJLA also reports:

But now, the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board has a tentative deal with owner Brian Harrison, allowing The Reef to reopen. The bar would have to retrain its security personnel in controlling aggressive patrons, preventing alcohol consumption by minors, even preserving a crime scene.

According to the ABRA ruling:

“The Board approved the attached Offer in Compromise, 3-0 (Miller, Alberti, and Silverstein). The License remains Suspended until satisfactory compliance with additional security terms and conditions. Among other things, the Respondent must submit a Security Plan, install a camera security system and professionally train its security personnel. The next hearing is scheduled for August 22, 2013 at 3:00 pm.

Following are the full details of the incident according to the ABRA public case file:

DETAILS:
The following investigation was initiated as the result of a telephone call to the ABRA Hotline received by Supervisory Investigator Craig Stewart, at 2:15 am., on Saturday, August 10, 2013, from MPD Sergeant Joseph Perren, who stated that a patron of The Reef had been stabbed. As a result, a MPD PD-251 report (CCN #13112842) (Exhibit #1) Was created and retrieved by Investigator Jones on August 10, 2013, from MPD 3rd District Station, dated August 10, 2013. The PD-251 states the following; (more…)

Well this could be awesome. EaterDC reports:

“D.C. Broker Bill Miller says they’ve toured several locations in D.C. proper, but there’s no lease signed yet. They’re looking at places between 8,000 and 12,000 square feet in size, and considering spots that stretch over two levels.”

Back in Dec. 2012 we learned Eno Wine Bar was opening up next to the Four Season’s Hotel at 2810 Pennsylvania Ave, NW. A press release updates us with a planned September opening:

“ENO, a new neighborhood wine bar with a focus on exceptional wines in an approachable setting is slated for a September opening at 2800 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW in Georgetown. With five locations, including two in Chicago, one each in San Francisco, San Diego, and Half Moon Bay, CA, ENO Georgetown will mark the company’s sixth wine bar, and first foray on the East Coast, offering guests a curated selection of wines by the glass, bottle and flight, as well as handcrafted cheeses, charcuterie and chocolates from artisanal producers.

Known for its amenable approach as well as its warm and inviting design, ENO’s opening list will offer hundreds of selections from both the Old World and New World; approximately half of the bottles will be priced under $50. The wine bar will also feature 50 wines by the glass, eight on tap, with prices starting at $9. (more…)

Earlier in the week we learned The Reef had been closed at 2446 18th Street, NW in Adams Morgan due to a weekend stabbing. At that time a reader heard they would reopen Wednesday. A couple of readers send updates with word of an extended “indefinite” closure. Some rumors have started circulating that an employee may have been involved in the incident. Updates as more info becomes available.

Back in April we learned that the Blue Banana had closed at 3632 Georgia Avenue, NW by DC Reynolds and Looking Glass Lounge just south of the Petworth metro. More scuttlebutt has come on in on the new management team. I hear the new team comes from the folks behind the Mason Inn in Glover Park, the Capitale nightclub on K Street and the George club in Georgetown. This scuttlebutt comes from two different sources who are both very confident in what they heard. One also hears that the new space will be called the Petworth Patio. Stay tuned.

From a press release:

Opening in Fall 2013, Ivy and Coney will be a small, neighborhood bar located at 1537 7th St NW in the Shaw neighborhood in Washington, D.C. It brings the atmosphere of a Chicago corner bar with Detroit prices and Midwestern hospitality to our ever-diverse capital. The spot comes from Kangaroo Boxing Club owners Josh Saltzman and Chris Powers (originally from Chicago and Detroit), bartender Adam Fry (Chicago) and native Washingtonian, Jamie Hess.

Ivy and Coney is built on a foundation of simplicity: sometimes a good hot dog, a cold beer, and a game on is all you’re looking for in your night. The menu includes Chicago-style and Detroit Coney-style hot dogs, Chicago Italian beefs, peanuts, and cracker jacks. The beers will include Strohs, Old Style, Goose Island 312, and Bell’s Two Hearted along with a quality selection of spirits and sodas. All of these can be enjoyed while sports (with an emphasis on Chicago, Detroit, and D.C. teams) play across several TVs throughout the bar.

Additionally, we will be bringing a new concept to the D.C. area for those who want a wider selection of spirits by offering reserved liquor lockers. Our customers will have the opportunity to purchase a broad collection of different labels at a highly discounted service rate, store their choices on site, and have our staff serve up their favorite drinks.

Founded on the “corner tavern” mentality and built with a passion for good value, we aim to make Ivy and Coney a great edition to the DC community.

If you’d like to be a part of opening of Ivy and Coney check out our Indiegogo Page to be a part of the project.”

Ed. Note: Ivy and Coney will be located near the new Dacha beer garden coming to 7th and Q St, NW.

From an email:

“Next week is DC Beer Week and next Tuesday, August 13th, Chef Vince is collaborating with Chef Madrid from Sixth Engine to put together a casual, non-traditional “beer dinner.” They will be creating passed food items to pair with 5 different beers from our friends at DC Brau (2 of which are unreleased). It’s really going to be a great time and we’d love for our neighbors to come out!

The cost for the night is $50 per person (inclusive of tax and gratuity) and is being PRE-SOLD at the pub now. There are limited spaces available and we do expect to sell out! If anyone has any questions they can email me directly at info(at)boundarystonedc.com.

Also, the pub will be closed to the public from 5pm until 10pm that evening.”
