Last week we learned that District Winery had applied for a liquor license at 385 Water Street, SE:

“Multi-Purpose Facility with 450 seats and a Total Occupancy Load of 750. Requesting an Entertainment Endorsement to include dancing, wine pub and summer garden with 100 seats.”

I just saw where that actually is – holy smokes this has some pretty amazing potential.

Come out and say hi! I’ll be there from 5pm to 9pm(ish). And I’ll bring shirts (and some totes and onesies) for those who doubt their caption contest skills. It’s been a while so it should be fun. I plan on being coherent until 7ish so if we you want to have a serious chat get there early. If you just want to just shoot the shit – get there whenever you can. I’ll be wearing a gray PoPville shirt and a Bullets hat.

Back in January we shared some scuttlebutt that MacIntyre’s (an Irish bar) would be replacing Taste of India in Woodley Park. Eater DC now confirms:

“The team behind Maddy’s and Maddy’s Tap Room are looking to open Macintyre’s in Woodley Park this fall.”

They say there will be 14 beers on draft and seven 60 inch plasma televisions. Updates when they get closer to opening.

sudhouse
1340 U Street, NW

Last week we saw that Bistro La Bonne was closing for good to be replaced by a spot called Sudhouse. Got more details from a press release:

“Sudhouse, a beer hall and social club, will open on May 22nd, 2015 at 1340 U street in NW. This will be the area’s newest neighborhood-style bar. Featuring domestic and craft beers, classic American fare, pool and Big Buck, Sudhouse aims to be your new hangout spot to imbibe with friends. Sudhouse is the very first concept created by Farout and will have a tasty selection of both hearty and small plates like home-made five alarm chili and organic farm fresh salads. It will be a perfect place to relax and embrace the wonders of the U Street Corridor.

Managers and co-owners Simo and Allison Farouidi have been in the industry for over 15 years and felt the U street Corridor needed a classic “mom and pop” style bar and grill. Their combined industry knowledge and passion for authenticity will elevate the space into a multi- use venue that thrives on new experiences and warm social gatherings.

Located steps away from 14th and U Street, Sudhouse will be open Tuesday to Sunday in the afternoons. It will be an ideal spot to relax, enjoy a pint or two and some classic American food. The exposed brick and industrial structure in the 2000 sq. ft. loft style space will take you back to the simpler times when a barkeep was your therapist and the drinks were uncomplicated. With 3 floors and 2 bars, it will have ample space for late night happy hours with friends or your own private event. Sudhouse will aim to be your favorite place to laugh, drink, eat and revel in the welcoming environment and the friendly staff that genuinely believes the guest comes first.

From the Owners:
I have lived by the shops, restaurants, and along the busy, car-lined sidewalks of U Street
Corridor for over 15 years. The allure is mostly derived from the immense history that is etched
in each of the nine blocks that compose the Corridor but also from its growing potential. My
wife, friends, and I have noticed the increasing need for a pond that genuinely encompasses the
bohemian alma of the Corridor, and it has long been a dream of ours to harbor the spirit of U
street within the confines of a mom-and-pop style bar and grill. We encourage all who seek to
know and experience the U Street Corridor, whether thirsty residents or curious passers-by, to
join us for classic American fare and craft brews served in our unhurried, humble yet charming
ambience. At Sudhouse, we strive to be socially responsible and a positive entity on the
community that both surrounds and supports us.”

3632 Georgia Ave, NW

For me I have a big problem – two of my favorite bars in the District of Columbia are Looking Glass Lounge and DC Reynolds. And since they are located on the same block (3600 block of Georgia Ave just south of the Petworth metro) I have an agonizing decision every time I visit one (I’m too old to bar hop.) Now my dreams have been answered – they are joining forces to open a sports bar in the former Blue Banana (briefly Park View Patio) space. I am so freaking happy. From the owners:

“With a nod to legendary Washington Senator Walter “Big Train” Johnson, Walters will be a family friendly neighborhood sports bar with a focus on ballpark style food and a commitment to having 2 rotating tap handles per U.S. Time zone (Mainland) as well as 3 more cost sensitive options and a rotating DC Brau tap. Initially a ballpark centric menu featuring some of these options will be available with the hope of expanding the kitchen in the future.

Mac N Cheese
7 layer dip
Potato Munchers
Wings
BBQ Pork Sandwich
Brisket Sandwich
Caprese Sand
Grilled Cheese
House Salad
Bratwurst, Half Smokes, Burger Brats

We hope to open Walters by July 1st with a 30 seat patio and outdoor bar area. We hope by burning incense, sprinkling holy water, and exercising any demons left by previous bar incarnations, Walters will be a welcome addition to the Georgia Ave community.”

The_Pitch
4015 Georgia Ave, NW

Update from the owner of The Pitch about their temporary closure:

“The Pitch Tavern will be reopening on Wednesday, May 27. We’re taking this time to bring on some new hires, take our staff through a new training program and revise our menu. With The Pitch Tavern being a new establishment, my partners and I being new restaurateurs, and the summer months approaching, we decided it was more effective to close temporarily while we get our house in order. We will continue giving our guests an outstanding experience through the summer and beyond!”
