Thanks to a reader for passing on from MetroWeekly:

“Billed as a “gay dive bar,” Trade marks the third concurrently open bar for the successful trio, whose local nightlife properties include Town Danceboutique and Number Nine.”

Trade opened last week and wrote on their Facebook page:

“Wow. Thank you to everyone who has come out to see us in these first few days. The bar looks best with all of your faces in it. We can’t wait to show you everything we have in store for you.

We’re back again tonight and every night until 10 PM with our HUGE Happy Hour, HUGE boozier drinks at our smaller prices and just $4 for all beer and wine.” target

From an email:

What: Tiki Monkey, a spinoff of the immensely popular Secret Monkey Social Club, takes place next week at the Dolcezza Gelato Factory & Coffee Lab. The team has been looking forward to presenting this take on the sometimes monthly punch and music event, and is excited to see it come to life. It will focus primarily on tiki punches with more tropical-oriented spirits, new faces in the lineup of guest bartenders, and a new sound for guests to enjoy.

Guests can look forward to enjoying punches from the following guest bartenders: (more…)

View of Kennedy Street at 5th – 518 Kennedy Street NW is across the street

Upshur Street Kennedy Street continues to roll – next up comes word of a new bar coming to 518 Kennedy Street, NW. What has my excitement to a level nine is who it’s from – the owners of Ivy & Coney in Shaw, the bar manager of KBC (Kangaroo Boxing Club) in Columbia Heights and Matthew McGovern, Tchotchke Curator extraordinaire from Columbia Heights and Brookland/Edgewood. Not a bad trio.

So quickly before I get scooped – the bar’s name is still being worked out. If all goes well it will open next year. It will have the same low key, laid back vibe as KBC and Ivy & Coney. There will be a nice outdoor patio area – though the owners are taking great lengths to ensure the neighbors are happy. Many more updates as construction progresses and they get closer to opening next year!

3000 Connecticut Ave, NW right across the street from the Zoo

A reader reports:

“I’m a long-time regular of Zoo Bar in Woodley Park in DC. I heard from someone who works there that it’s closing (at least for now as Zoo Bar). Apparently, someone (don’t know who) bought it. Of course, as you know, Steve McKinney passed away in August. His daughter Lindsay was running the bar.”

On the Cleveland Park listserv another resident wrote:

“The Zoo Bar, a longtime local cafe, and music venue, at 3000 Connecticut, has shut its doors for good last Saturday. According to the information I have been given, the place has been sold and the new owners have not decided when, or if, they will re-open. This is a real loss for the neighborhood and for the Blues community.”

Updates when more info is known.
