From ABRA:

“A total of 108 District restaurants, bars, hotels and other on-premises establishments are registered to sell alcohol until 4 a.m. during inaugural week, which runs from Jan. 14-22.

District law allows on-premises establishments to register with the Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA) to sell and serve alcohol until 4 a.m. and operate up to 24 hours a day during inaugural week. This is the third inauguration that establishments have been permitted to extend hours. As part of this year’s inauguration, eligible establishments could register to participate for up to nine days, including two weekends.”

And let us remember the wise words of Sir Winston Churchill:

“Never give in–never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”

But all will be forgiven if you are legit. Wet Dog Tavern looked super close to opening back in November. Their last Facebook update was written Dec. 7th:

“…We have a great relationship with our PA brewery and they’re willing to craft and customize great beers for us. We love their product and are looking forward to introducing another great brand to the city. We are prideful neighbors, we are DC lifers… and, we are frequent travelers. We do plan to carry a few locals, since of course, who wouldn’t?! Our plan, however is to not JUST carry local beers or base the majority of our list on them. Over the past 2-3 years of dining and drinking around the city, especially the U St. & 14th St. corridor, we tend to find the same 4-5 local brews on beer lists/taps, which for some people is great, but we at Wet Dog would like to offer a little more. matt-croke

From an email:

“Fun fact: Matt Croke is actually not an American citizen.

That is until 8am Tuesday when he gets sworn in! Most of us will have to work that morning and quite frankly it’s difficult to get a beer at that hour, so the celebration will commence at 5pm at the Stone! Wear some red, white and blue and celebrate the one and only Matt Croke finally becoming legitimized!”

A reader reports:

“Looks like real progress at 5424 3rd Street, NW! Do we have any idea what’s coming here? All I got is a tavern and what looks like condos.”

Recently a liquor license placard was posted for Library Tavern that says:

“New Class “C” Tavern with 85 seats and a Total Occupancy Load of 85. Requesting an Entertainment Endorsement.”

Anyone happen to hear other details/plans? Updates when more is known.

Smith of Cotton & Reed Distillery, Carlie Steiner of Himitsu and Horus Alvarez of The Eddy in Providence, RI, along with island flicks on the projector and other tropical surprises.

The rum-soaked evening will showcase rums and liqueurs from DC-made Cotton & Reed, plus unique Caribbean and South American spirits like Rujero Singani (a Bolivian brandy), Hamilton rums (imported from Jamaica and Guyana), Ilegal Mezcal (from Oaxaca, Mexico), and the classic Tiki flavors of pineapple, citrus, cacao, nutmeg + more. And of course, this monthly guest-bartended industry night features $8 cocktails from three of the area’s top cocktail talents.

Back in March we shared some scuttlebutt saying the long time, low key Chads of Friendship Heights was for sale. Apparently it sold. The Washington Post reports:

“Tony Kornheiser announced on his podcast Tuesday that an ownership group that includes himself, former Maryland basketball coach Gary Williams and TV host Maury Povich purchased Chad’s, the longtime Friendship Heights restaurant and bar.”

Well, this is either gonna be absolutely awesome or absolutely awful. Stay tuned!
