2315 18th Street, NW. I miss their old sign.

You can see best Carryouts here, best Thai here, best liquor stores here, and best Ramen here.

Lest we get in to a debate over what a dive bar is, let’s just nip that in the bud and include all bars. Your favorite bar can be all fancy with leather stools with armrest that have outlets, bubble machines, and ice imported from the finest natural springs, if you like. Or it can be Dan’s Cafe. Or it can be someplace nicely in between: (more…)

My sources deep in the dough tell me that a Ledo Pizza could be taking over the space. A Ledo Pizza opened up on H Street, NE last summer. Check out Ledo’s menu here.  I give this scuttlebutt a 78% accuracy rating.  STAY TUNED.

Thanks to all who passed on from their announcement:

“Bar Roubaix has officially closed. Thanks to everyone who supported us during our run. We greatly appreciate your patronage. Please visit our sister location next door at Lou’s City Bar.”

Back in January we learned that Sim’s Creole Kitchen was popping up here for Mardi Gras. Bar Roubaix opened here back in December 2017. Before Bar Roubaix this space was home to (more…)

I’ve been getting tons of messages asking about the giant for lease sign outside of Ivy & Coney. Fear not, it is only for the first floor and those degenerates at Ivy tell me they’re not going anywhere. In fact they just got a Big Buck Hunter and NFL Blitz with free play on Mondays. So drink some Malort to your heart’s content. (more…)

Boundary Stone is of course one of the best pubs in D.C. for many reasons. And this is a big one.

So much awfulness bringing out so much greatness. Thanks to all who donated from Team PoPville we represented properly! And oh my God, did so many people rally for this. And while Boundary Stone thanks many key players (see below), I’d like to take the opportunity to thank them, and especially the Croke family, for all they do for this event. It is truly stunning to witness. The passion they have in fighting this awful illness is truly inspiring. And it’s a good reminder that while all this negativity abounds these days, there is also much greatness to celebrate. So on behalf of so many, thank you to Boundary Stone for leading the charge in this fight year after year after year.

And Brandon Skall, of D.C. Brau fame, really is the greatest emcee I’ve ever witnessed.

From Boundary Stone:

“Wow. Wow. Wow! We are blown away by the awesomeness of our community! Thanks to all who donated, volunteered and came out in force to our St. Baldrick’s Foundation shave party on Sunday. Together we raised $155,000 for pediatric cancer research! ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY-FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS!! INCREDIBLE!!!! (more…)
